I'm thinking that like all plastic, over time, the material becomes brittle, less tolerant to shock and sudden application of force. I dislike the polymer extractor depressor plunger in the slide in the second and third gen pistols. Polymer meeting steel, polymer wears. So I have a spare depressor. I'll order a stainless factory disconnector to keep handy but not install it since that would alter the factory configuration. If I got a polymer disconnector, its on the order of at least 15 years old. It may not have weathered the shock of the original installed part, but time is not polymer's friend even just sitting on a shelf.
