Default 2004 1911 SC, NIB?

What is the value of a new in box 1911SC? This would be a range gun for a S&W fan.

Excuse the pictures. I know the seller and yes it's NIB, don't let the ****** pics fool ya. This one dates to 2004, JRE45XX. I know they were had at one point for fairly reasonable. The seller wants to get $900-950. What say you?

I learn something new every day here. I didn't know the SC's were part of the Billboard series. SKU 108283, right? Commander-sized.

That's a fine looking pistol! I don't think $900 to $950 for NIB is unreasonable. On the high side, yes, but not unreasonable. I paid more than that for a NIB JRE01xx series a while back -- though it is a different SKU (108282) -- and probably overpaid, but I really wanted it.

If it's going to be a shooter, though, you'd just have to accept the fact that you're buying NIB with the intention of losing some value once you start putting rounds downrange, vs. buying a shooter for less (looks like $600 to $750 would get you one in good to excellent shape with box) to start with. Though I have to confess, I don't know how rare the early SC models are, so having one in the stable even as a shooter has lots of appeal too!

I normally look on GB for my price check. There is a shooter one exactly like that for $629. Now, realize there is wear and tear (hence a shooter). There is one in excellent condition for $869.
I love S&W 1911s. If I were looking to add one to my "look but don't touch" collection, I'd probably try to snag it for $850.
I think the seller's price point is at the upper upper end of the value of that gun. However, what does $200 matter if you REALLY want the gun. Everyone one this forum has honestly overpaid for a gun at some point.

I looked at the recent GB "solds" for my value range for the shooter. If you can get the NIB for $850, that's a very good price, but $900 to $950 isn't bad if he isn't willing to come down.

Yes, product code is 108283, commander size. I believe the 1911 PD has the same product code as well but the slide is marked differently?

I was not feeling very motivated by the price. I also agree it is at the upper pricing limit. I should say that I'm not actively looking for one. An opportunity just presented itself. In general I'm a S&W revolver and 3rd Gen fan. However, I do have a full size S&W PC 1911 that dates to 2004. I should post it up to share, it is beautiful gun.

The commander size, scandium frame model does appeal to me. I don't have one, nor have I shot a commander. I have done some reading on these and those that have them, seem to cherish them. Most have good things to say in terms of reliability and accuracy. So I doubt it's a lemon.

I've got to agree with WisconsinKen. I KNOW I have overpaid on some of my buys, but if I really want it, whose to say that's a bad idea. In the end, it's my money, or rather " our money". And I know I have made some good buys also. So saying that, if you want it, and you or your family are not going to starve, and your bills are paid, buy it. I have been on the fence before, and lots of time I wait too long, and it's gone.

I'm not sensing the kind of love and enthusiasm that it would take to get me to spend nearly a grand on a gun that wasn't on my highest priority Want List just because I happened to stumble upon it.

And yes, we have all spent more than we should have from time to time... but I'm not one to ever say "what does $200 matter" because it matters a whole lot to a guy like dirt poor old me. But not everyone is as limited financially as I am and maybe that kind of money ($900-950) isn't a big deal at all to the OP.

It's not a gun I would ever buy so that is probably part of my negativity. Now, if it were a nice condition Hi-Power with a decent or better trigger... that would be a whole 'nother story.

Different strokes for different folks.

For that price, you are in the same price point as a like new 1911SC E Series. As a shooter 1911, I would rather have the e-series.
If it fills a hole in the collection, I'd grab it.
However, that is just my humble opinion.

Yeah, this is not high on my want list. But it's also something you don't have an opportunity to import here in CA. I just like most things S&W. I have never been a big 1911 fan but that may change tomorrow. I think that is why I posted up the question to get a feel from the fine folks here. If I could get in the $800 range I would have snatched it up already, but the current price is not giving me motivation.

Stupid me, I didn't notice that you are in CA. That puts a whole different light on it. Your moonbat state is even worse than my moonbat state and suddenly maybe the value of the gun in CA and the asking price aren't so marginal or unattractive after all. In fact, that could be a "deal" in your state for all I know.

It's very rare that I go for a gun that isn't on an least one of my Want Lists... ... but it does happen.

I agree that $800 sounds a whole lot sweeter than $900-$950. And I say that not really knowing very much about the differences between the various S&W 1911 offerings (my 1911's are two Colts and my new RI 1911A2). I know the S&W 1911's don't come cheap, but I have never studied out which one I would choose to buy if it ever came to that.

So good luck. Tough decision ahead. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I wasn't a 1911 guy either, mostly Third Gens and revolvers, until for some reason I suddenly had to have an early SW1911. Spent the money, sold the first one, upgraded to an earlier one of the first 200 and with the JRD prefix, and so far have managed to have scratched that particular itch. Haven't really stopped to think about the nice 3G or revolver I coulda-woulda-shoulda had with the 1911 funds. It's fun to shoot, and that's what's worth it to me in the final analysis. It's also kinda cool to me to have a Billboard, even though I know a lot of folks don't really like the look. I didn't either until something about the provenance and the piece of S&W history involved spoke to me.
