OK I need opinions. I have a LNIB Beretta 92 compact. Local pawn shop has a very nice 3913 with 2 mags and the box. Will trade even. I know the Beretta is worth a bit more but the 3913s are getting scarce. So do you think I'm getting hurt to bad in that deal?

Is the Beretta stainless or black? If stainless, I'd keep it for sure. If black, it's a much closer call.

You're going to be hurt no matter what as long as you place the value of ownership and shooting fun at $0.00.

Do they have layaway? If so, consider putting it on layaway and sell your Beretta on your own (or not!). That way, your regrets would be few...

I have both........ find the cash and buy the 3913!!!!!!!

IMO the 92 compact is a great hi-cap carry gun...... on the smaller end of a duty size weapon 13 +1... but ... can use Beretta 15 rd mags or 17/18/20 round Mec-gar mags..... +2 adapters are available from X-grip and older Farrar's can still be found. I've had one since 1988 ..... still have that F and a couple of FS in black and Inox.

Per TTSH's comments a FS stainless/ Inox compact........ w/out a rail are uncommon and worth more.......

The Beretta is black with out rail. I've been buying and trading guns a long time. Sometimes I get burned sometimes I make out like a bandit. The Beretta is a fine weapon but it's not a carry gun for me I have others to fill that role. Guess I'm looking at the 3913 as more of a collectible. The 92 compact is still being made although not always that common at your local gun shops. So I guess what I'm asking is what you guys think of the 3913s real life value and future status since it is no longer made. I like the 39 but only know what I've read about it. With tax I've got close to 600 in the Beretta which is about average after everything is factored in. So really that's what I'd be paying for the 39. I know that's to much but when I check on line prices for the 39 people seem to be really proud of them.

I'd take the 3913. You can always get a 6906 with the grip extensions for the 15 rd mags.

I have nothing against the Beretta but if you are buying the gun to carry I would prefer the 3913. If the 3913 is really prissy, having $600 in it wouldn't be the end of the world, IMO. Since it is a used gun I'd ask to take the slide off the frame to check for wear, cracks, etc - just in case.

The answer lies in the fact that you like the 3913 and that they're not making them anymore. Grab it. If you have buyer's remorse down the road you can always pick up a Beretta.

Is the 92 Compact a FS or SB series? The SB is much rarer than a 3913.

3913 as a collectible............someday............ in maybe 30-40 years.

While they are not made any longer: most folks who have them or want them today want them because they are considered about the best single stack 9mm concealed carry pistol you can get!!!!! On the flip side there are a lot of folks out there who've never heard of a 39xx.... their gun knowledge is based on Movies and TV. Think Dirty Harry and the .44 magnum or Lethal Weapon/Bruce Willis and the Beretta 92...Miami Vice and the Bren10 or 4506.

Collectible someday ....IMHO.... you will want /require ANIB condition with box ,Docs and tools.

Hunter raises a good point...... 92 compacts were made as SBs, bright blue finish with round trigger guards ( two styles of grip frame) and generally wood grips. From the early 80s they are fairly uncommon and bring higher $$$s. In ANIB condition these are beautiful Italian made guns

Compact also came in F models and FS models (Bruton and Inox) with and w/o out rails........ also there is a single stack version Compact Type M.


Market value is often driven by what State you are in, Calf Mass and Conn. often adds $100-200 to a guns price (or more) In W. Pa. $600 for the Beretta Compact is a bit high ...... though I haven't seen one for sale in awhile. "Used" 3913s in a LGS ..... I'd expect to see them around $450 here....."most folks" will buy a new Shield for $400 vs a used gun for more.

Examples;

I've bought a 6906 and 6904 this year both in near new condition...... average price $292. Why? IMO the availability and price of new Smith M&Ps and Shields.........most folks are looking for a 'gun" not collecting.

I got a M&P 9 ANIB (still in the box) for $300 out the door.......LGS said folks want the new 2.0; they figured gun would just sit as long as they had 2.0s in stock.....unless it was a real bargain...... so they took it in trade cheap and moved it cheap.

Thanks bam bam. Almost 600is with tax so if you're finding NIB 92 compacts with or without rail under 550 that's a rare deal. So now I have a opinion on 3913 actual worth. 450 . To sell the Beretta in a timely manner 500 would be about right on a 6 month old used 92 in like new condition. More than that and most people will opt for new. So in the real world I'm looking at about 100 to 150 los. Does this sound about right?

Hey, get the 3913, you will not regret it...they are great ccw guns....every s&w gun owner should have a few 3rd gen s&w semi autos......I also have a Beretta 92 compact...they are awesome guns as well...but the smith is very thin and a pleasure to carry.

Ya, around here most LGS list ANIB "used" guns "at least" $100 less than new....... or they won't sell .... unless it's a hard to get /in demand gun.

Sorry..........I meant used 92s Compacts at $400-450.... they have never been that popular around here..... "new" 92s are $550 or so; asking price.

Neither gun is IMO and experience are well known among those folks just "looking for a gun" .... so they sit....... I've scored some real deals on both over the past 20 year. When you encounter folks that know Beretta's and Smiths....... both models get snapped up quickly if the gun is in good condition.....

If I were you.... I'd put some money down on the 3913 and pay it off over a couple of months...... the 'new' runs of 92 Compacts seem to be hit or miss .... it was out of production for almost 15 years IIRC.

Wilson Combat tried to sell upgraded Compacts..... my understanding is they were slow sellers....... at LOL $1300..... an earlier full size (3.7") gun sold well and is still offered on back order...................

Mister Bam is telling it right. Keep the ANIB Beretta 92 Compact and find the cash or use layaway to buy the Model 3913 if it is a nice one. If your Beretta were used and beat up, that would be a different story... but for a gun that can almost pass as brand spanking new, you are taking too great a hit to make a one-for-one trade worthwhile. I say this as the owner of four Model 3913 pistols and a couple Beretta 92FS full-size pistols in black and stainless. I'll probably add a 92 Compact in stainless to the arsenal someday before I kick the bucket. They are all great guns but I sure hate to see you take such a hit unnecessarily.

Sorry, but your understanding is a bit faulty. Wilson rapidly moved every 92 Compact Carry Beretta built for them when they got abruptly cut-off due to the Beretta MD to TN relocation. The "normal" 92 Compact the market now Italian built with the FS trigger guard, not the graceful round guard of the Wilson spec'd product.

IIRC most of the threads over on the Beretta Forum were not as excited about the Compact as the original Brig Tactical due in part to the fixed front sight and the fact it wasn't a Brig slide.......except for the round trigger guard it was basically a Compact with a few Wilson parts..... many expressed the thought that one could build your own for a lot less than $1200


The Brig Tactical is still offered on backorder......while the Compact just faded away after six months or so and the first run ( IIRC around 1500).

Yes, that sounds about right. Therefore, base your decision on which gun you want MOST....and what you want it FOR. If you want it to carry on your belt, particularly concealed, get the 3913. If you want more of a range gun or non-concealed everyday carry gun, stick with the Beretta.

just for reference..i sold a 3914 on here for 425.. really 350 after trans fees and shipping.. i think i paid 600 for my beretta m9... but the 3913/14/908 are some great shooters.. buy the way, i have a 908 for sale on the classified in this forum.. the 908 is the value version of the 3913 3914.. the 908 has less milling, plastic guide rod, plastic mag release and plastic sights.. i replace the guide rod with a metal one.. also put a new recoil spring in it.. comes with two mags. one sw stainless mag and one pro mag. mag.. check it out in the classified section if interested..
