Scored another 3913NL. Have a few ??'s.
It's the one on top with the black grips. Snagged it at the gunshow in Knoxville last weekend... no box, no paperwork and 1 mag. It appears to be either unfired or at least it has a very low round count.
There are some differences in configuration between the two. I guess they changed a little over the production run. The differences I noticed:
1. Black grips instead of grey? I assume these aren't original to the gun?
2. Different color trigger and hammer.
3. Different length extractor. Or, at least the cutout in the slide is different.
It's visibly different, but I haven't actually measured it yet.
4. Safety and slide release are flatter on the one on top. They don't stick
out as far from the gun.
The one with the grey grips is SN VJA6XXX and the new one with the black grips is TJB6XXX
Just curious what you guys could tell me about these two (and the differences between them).
Also, I'm gonna keep the new one and sell the one with the grey grips. Any recommendations on it's value? It's in great shape and has the box, paperwork and both original mags.

The one with the hard chromed hammer and trigger is older.......
VJA= 1997
TJB = 91-92 (3913NL was introduced in 1991 at TEExxxx)
the best I can get from the SCS&W4th.
Great guns ...... I'd keep both.
EDIT: mine is TJCxxx and is a very early gun ....... first one I could get my hands on when the NL was introduced..... I had/have a first year 3913 but wanted an NL for the coooool factor!!!!
Value in my market .......... $450-500 but a knowledgeable/motivated buyer might go higher.....$600 for a nice NL.
Might I suggest Hogue grips..... rubber is available for $25-30 ............ but checkered wood is my favorite on these guns.

Thanks for the info!
I have a set of rubber Hogues on my regular 3913 that I carry and love them. The NL above that I just got also came with a set. This gun will probably end up being my wife's. She has extremely small hands and doesn't like the feel of the Hogues at all, so I'll probably keep the factory grips on it.

I don't know off hand if the 3913NL came with the gray grips or if it came with black grips. My 3914NL didn't come with the OEM grips, so I can't help you there.
The early NL guns came with low profile slide release and safety lever. I like that and wish that all of them came that way, but S&W changed the design on later production guns.
ANIB Lady Smiths seem to go for $500.00 plus around here. The NL guns don't appear to be as possible and are a lot more scarce. As Bam-Bam says, someone who knows that they are and is motivated might pay more.

My early LS had pre-recall gray grips which I had S&W replace with black grips when the gray were out of stock. I'm fairly certain all LS/NL pistols came with gray grips - the silver grip pin gives it away.

Here is my 3913LS, well basically my wife took it over, it's a keeper! Shoots great, accurate and just a great firearm. Serial is TFB51xx, not sure of year.
I agree with another comment, keep them both. MET

Wish I could, unfortunately I need the funds to pay for a new AK. My wife very recently started shooting and fell in love with my SLR106CR. I found a SLR106FR locally and put it on layaway for her.

I'd much rather have the 3913 than an AK... Can't you two share the AK you already have?

BTW, MidwayUSA has the light gray 3913LS grips in stock.
I ordered an extra set for my recently acquired lady.

No, haha. She wants one of her own. And the only thing that I love more than old Smith auto's are AK's. And my wife, apparently.

You're a very smart man! At least the part about keeping the wife happy.
Still; I'd try to keep them both if possible and sell something else.......
