What is it? Performance Center 40S&W Comp *Snagged Pics Added*
Met a colleague with a Performance Center 40S&W and compensator. It has polished flats, decocker, serial PCE013X. Has 5 PC 11 rd yellow follower mags, no box, price is $1300 and no room to budge. Asked for the case but no dice. Is this pistol worth a second look? I think its one of the 240 produced. I only have three other 40's, a CS40, a 4040pd, and. 610.
Go or no go?

It is "worth" that money in today's market, but if it is the pistol I think it is, it is DA/SA. That doesn't make it a bad pistol... but it demands that you keep expectations in the right place. By that I mean... think DPA5906 or SD-9 rather than 952/PPC-9/845/3566 because the trigger simply will not be to that level.
Of course, you cannot touch a 5/6" Limited PC target gun for $1,300 so the Comp 40 becomes an awfully nice buy at that money.
Hope I identified the pistol properly?! If I did not... haha, my answer changes.

This is exactly the gun. It did have a decocker on one side, I believe phosphoric sights. There appeared to be a Briley barrel bushing and the trigger was very nice. 40 ammo is plentiful and cheap now, but I've used up much of the gun budget for this year.
If it was a 952 or a Super 9, or any 845/945 variant I would have bought it no question. Even if it had the performance center case this would be an easier decision. I think I might pass on it... I do like a nice PC gun though.

The Super 9 is am extremely cool pistol but it also isn't at the level of the Limited target 5"/6" pistols. I still say that Comp-40 is a solid investment buy at $1,300 but it's also not so cheap that you could buy and flip immediately for big profit.
I have a particular way for looking at these different pistols. I believe there are certain features/elements that make them extremely special.
Some of the guns we talk about have all of those elements and some have a few of those elements and some have zero of those elements. The Comp-40 has a few of those elements while a 952 has -ALL- of them. (a 5906, while a fantastic handgun in it's role, has none of those elements)

Some PC guns were built as carry/competition guns....... some are true target pistols..... ... this one IMHO sits in the middle; favoring a competition (USPSA/IDPA) gun.
Coooool looking gun and the 5" barrel/slide would look "just right" with the full size frame.

In rebuttal to Sevens, in my opinion the Comp 40 is hands down the best semi-automatic handgun that the original S&W Performance Center made with the 845 a very close second. A 40 Limited with a fixed comp, what more could you ask, if you don't want it feel free to PM me your buddy's info.

Wow, well it would be silly to try and change anyone's opinion -- after all, it is an opinion so by definition, it cannot be "wrong", it's quite simply how you feel.
I have a hunch that most folks familiar with both the Comp-40 and the 845 would prefer the 845 and by more than just a hair, but I think we can both agree that fans of the S&W PC pistols are blessed to have any of these to discuss... as all of them are truly fantastic handguns.

Not really, not with a DA/SA trigger. A .40 Limited is a double-stack 845 chambered in .40 S&W. These two are very nearly complete twins.

While technically correct, the DA is extremely light and smooth and in SA (after the little bit of take up) the trigger breaks about the same as my Limited or Tactical 40s or 845s. To me, the Comp is the best of both worlds and it's a PC Comp so even better.

Sweet pair of pistols. I would also miss the fantastic Bomar-style full target adjustable rear sight that the Comp 40 doesn't have.

If the price won't break you, get it.
It's really that simple. 240 made.
You will not likely see another.

Big Shrek, your nudge pushed me over today. When I took a second look. I had to have it. 8 mags instead of 5 also helped my decision.
I didn't notice the Bar-Sto barrel either first time I looked at it. It was sort of dirty when I got home, so I cleaned it up best that I could. The compensator and barrel bushing looked to be a PITA to remove.
I'll be stretching her legs next weekend when my friends and I go to the desert for our labor day shoot. Can't wait.

I'm such an Enabler
But heck, really, how many of those are going to
be on the market in our lifetime??
Better to have, than to always wonder what might have been...
which is why I bought this .45acp beast when I was looking
for the 10mm version...Star Megastar 45
