A 6904 showed up, and well,........it spoke to me
A LGS, that's not really local, but within my work travel radius, advertised a 6904 for $250 bucks, so I had to go look at it. What I found was a pretty nice handgun for the money, or so my weak mind thought. I am weak when it comes to these 3rd generation Smiths.
This one comes as is, one mag, no box, and some holster wear. But she's tight and there's no sign of abuse or hard use, just a little dirt and thin blueing on the edges, just the way I like them.
I just paid for a 64 snubby from fellow member DareDevil (due to arrive tomorrow), and picked up a 17-2 from another layaway, so I could only put some "hang on" cash down on this one for now.
It's actually the first 6904 I've ever seen. I'm going to do some reading up on it, with a brand new 4th edition "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" I picked up Saturday. (that's another story; wife had me at the AT&T store shopping, and I went next door to Barnes & Noble for a restroom, came out with a book)
Enough rambling, I've got some reading to do, both here in the archives and once I get home. I think I need to spend more time reading about these guns and less time looking at them in the shops. Did I mention I was weak?

That's basically what I paid for a clean 469, one mag/no box. The 6904 is better, to put it simply. My 469 is fine for what it is, what it does and for the money I have in it, but I'd swap it for a 6904/6906 in a heartbeat with no regrets.

KI just had a strong moment 2 weeks ago, when I barely passed a semi-rough 469 at $275 OTD. It was close, and I almost went back, but now I'm glad I didn't!

Nice !
Yeah, that 3rd Gen illness.....
I now have a 469,669 and 2 6909s the 6909s are the later round trigger guard, I swapped the single sided safety from the 669 to one of the 6906s, even carried it.

$250!? I cannot think of any S&W that I would pass up for that price. That is less than I paid for my 669 almost 10 years ago. Good deal on one heck of a pistol!!

Yeah, I know. I really thought it was going to be a beater at the listed price, but they agreed to pull it from the shelf until I could make the 20 minute run over to see it. Even with only one mag, I couldn't leave it behind.
They also had a nice S&W 457 (box & 2 mags) for $450 bucks but wasn't speaking to me like the 6904 was. Maybe next time I'm in there it'll whisper to me, or be cheaper.

A great deal. I hope you'll get as much enjoyment out of your 6904 as I have from mine. I put 200 rounds through it on Thursday and it functioned flawlessly.

I know that a 6906 is really a 6903 based on the configuration. Is that what you meant?
Mine is the rounded trigger guard as well.

Yup, 6906, had a senior moment, based on the configuration.
Since there was a 469, the Alloy/SS version should been a 369, screwed up the numbering system. My mental model calculator says an xxx6 is all stainless.
Oops.

Its fine. I really wonder why S&W didn't follow the numbering convention.

Just found a nice 6904 with 2 mags today and traded a Ruger lc9s pro for it. Hadn’t seen one around here and very happy with it.

At $249 there would have been burn marks on my pants pocket from pulling out my wallet so fast.
Great score.

Great grab...................................
Last winter I bought a anib 6904 for $260 and a anib 6906 for $325..............
Great guns...we love umm ... the "great unwashed" would rather have a Glock..... go figure..
But one thing is clear to me; one ........ can't leave them in the case at those prices......

They always show up when I'm freshly tapped out! Last 3 "good deals" caught me with all of my fun money spent, and had yo use the old "layaway" plan. But I'm not complaining, just screwy timing it seems. And like said above, "you can't just leave them there and walk away. Tried that before and somebody else got the goods. I've stopped even looking for now, until I catch up........... that's very hard to do ...........
I did trade into my first Glock 19 a few weeks back, but haven't fired it yet. Seems to naturally aim high for me. We'll see........

I had 250 in the Ruger and felt like I actually came out ahead of the lgs for once. I actually prefer the square trigger guard, and thought it looked very good to be a 1988 model.

I was able to pick this rascal up today, but no time to clean it yet. Guy at the shop said folks were calling about it several times a day. (They had it listed on Armslist when I found it) I think it was poorly stored on the left side, or maybe in one of those foam lines cases, and moisture got to it. Somebody saved it before it got real bad, and apparently dabbed some cold blue on the slide, but I've got some cleaning to do. Bought 3 more mags from a fellow member and hope to run a couple hundred rounds through it over the weekend.
Somebody here (sorry I forgot) mentioned the grip recall to me and I checked, no dimples. I called S&W and filed a claim for a new set, but they are out. Who knows when they'll get anymore, but I'm on the list. These are actually pretty good I think.
Thanks for all the positive feedback on it. It is the best $250 dollar S&W I own. Did I mention it was dirty???

Nice. I love my 6904. A little patina won't hurt it.
My 6904 actually just saved the family dog's life. On a hike, she was attacked by a humongous German Shepherd and a Rottweiler. Didn't have to shoot either of the dogs--but one warning shot from the Smith ended the tussle.
The 6900 series hits that sweet spot for size and capacity. I usually carry a Sig P239, but out on the trail I figured some extra capacity made sense. And for me, the fat grip gives me a very secure hold. Gun shoots very well for me. I've been carrying it a lot lately.

Speaking of Grips I ordered a set last Sat from KSD on their Black Friday sale. I received them yesterday at my home here in Canada. They look great. I get the gun to-morrow they are going on so the timing was perfect. Also got my Moonclips to-day that I ordered from Brownells. Happiness is picking up my dream gun to-morrow and putting the whole package to-gether.

And THEN we get to see the pictures, right? I'm considering a set of those for my 3906, if they're making them for that model.

Funny what shows up when you're not looking. I just had a pristine to every letter of that word, 5906 show up in my shop. Only one mag but couldn't resist as the great action it has lured me into it.
