Default Reasonable Price SW Mod 59

My sister has a SW Mod 59 that belonged to her son who passed away about 10 years ago. She wants to sell the gun. I would like to keep it in the family. The pistol is in good shape with 2 mags not box. What is a reasonable price for a used very good condition Model 59, it is not nickel or stainless just a stock as a rock 59

I paid two and a quarter for an excellent shooter with a lot of honest holster wear, along with two aftermarket magazines. Pretty sure I underpaid by a good margin.

I would say $280-$320, depending on condition and if the magazines are factory. It's very difficult to judge without a picture, or knowing your local market.

That said, the 59 is an excellent pistol. They're quite accurate and very shootable, but frequently get passed over in favor of the 3rd-gen and later guns. The trigger can be a bit tough to work in double-action, but otherwise, it's very difficult to complain about a 59. They've got a few more rough edges than more modern guns, but shoot as well as guns costing several times as much.

One important thing to note is that the 59 lacks any kind of a firing-pin block. If you were intending to carry it, I would suggest that there are better Smiths to buy. There are various accusations thrown around about the 59 on this matter. I wouldn't call the gun unsafe, but I do think that there's very little reason to carry one over a later pistol--and I'd still buy the 59.

If it has not been used as a hockey puck, then $300 would be fair for the both of you. Model 59s are good hi-cap semi auto pistols which will last several lifetimes with moderate use.

Default Trade Made

I ended up buying a wheeled self starting gasoline weed wacker for her approx $450, took pistol home. Fast forward a few months and she wanted pistol back and picked up $450 worth of expenses for a trip to Germany. Fast forward again and she gave the gun to me on another trip to Montana. Must have felt guilty after I bought her an Espresso Machine.

Try hanging onto it this time. All-metal Smiths aren't getting any cheaper or easier to find.
