This should be interesting. I have the Model with the square finger guard and the recall replacement grips. I know what it would take to buy this one out from under me. And even with that crazy price I'm not sure i'd let it go. The 6906 is a great shooting gun and carries nicely too.

I sold my NIB 6906 - square trigger guard - here on the classifieds for $525 plus shipping. I'm reasonably sure I could've gotten more on Crook Broker - but I didn't want to deal with the hassle. If the one you are looking at is not a police trade-in - then I'd say it should run $400-ish. S&W mags for them are hard to come by and they just don't seem to command much attention or money nowadays...

Since the first of the year I've bought a anib 6906 and a anib 6904 in a local gun shop...both later round trigger guards and novak sights.... no boxes or docs........ but not sure either gun has been fired.

Average price $292........ IIRC the 6906 was $325 and the 6904 was $260.

So prices are heavily market driven....... with wild variances.

An LGS I've done business with has a 6904 listed with two magazines for $299. The serial number is VAExxx, which (if I read info in the SCSW correctly) puts the production in 1993-1994. That seems to be when the round trigger guard production started.

I don't know know if I'll get up there to look at it before someone snaps it up. I don't think I'd buy it even at that price unless it was in really good condition as I have a 6906 that's in really nice condition already.

Was up in that area today on other business so I did you a favor and checked out that 6904. It fell slightly short of the infamous "TTSH Standard" for cosmetic acceptability... but you know that I am anal about my 3rd Gens and especially any black-finished 3rd Gens (which must be essentially factory perfect or forget about it!). For anyone else, it was fairly decent... certainly not deserving of my usual "used & abused" label!

It's clearly a used, holster-carried gun with a few obvious shiny wear spots... but other than that, it is pretty clean. I'd say the $299 pricetag is appropriate. If there were a good way to touch-up those few shiny corners... and if I weren't still suffering financially from my truck's transmission work... I might have even been interested in it myself.

I sold mine a year or two back, with a couple extra mags, for $450, and that still seems to be about what the market will bear, from what I see on our statewide classified sites.

TTSH....... come on down to the only great free Commonwealth left (Va. has it's own issues)........ I'll sell you a contraband 6904 anib that's able to pass the infamous " TTSH Test"...... so you can...... TTSH*.. . without asking the boss lady!.......just "$499.99......

Yeah, well, let's first forget about the fact that I can't just import that gun because of our "lists" and go right to the part where I'm still teetering on the edge of bankruptcy after my $2,200 truck tranny repair. Let's also add the fact that a Model 6904 doesn't appear on my "Bucket List" or my current lower level "Want List"!

Until I sell off more of my cheap plastic wonder guns, I'm sticking to my tranny recovery budget and to the plan already in place!

Understood. I was on my way up to NH anyway and hadn't visited Carl in a long time so what the heck? I also checked out his expensive Model 4506-1 ($699 on consignment - no box)... nice but a little rich for me. I'd rather have the one I found down in Little Rhody if I could figure out how to import it.

Also stopped in to visit the old boys on the other side of the highway. Hadn't been there in ages either and that was on purpose after they zinged me pretty hard on my last purchase there. They had a couple Model 422 pistols in excellent shape and a Model 2214, also in excellent shape. I was awfully tempted with their $50 off sale going on right now... but then I remembered the big zingaroo and how mad it made me. That gave me the strength to walk out of there empty-handed.

My one "score" of the day up in NH? A rare 10-round 6900-series magazine!

EDIT: 6904 was sold as of last night (and not to moi).

I just saw that. Just means I won't have to detour to their shop after my business a couple of towns over is concluded. I'm better off in the long run, I think.

I bought this one and was very happy with the price given its condition. What GeoJelly doesn't say is that he spent half the sale price in shipping materials - best packaged firearm I have ever received!!

I had a hunch it wasn't going to last very long. It was too much of a bargain (relatively speaking, by MA standards) to sit unsold in Carl's shop. Used guns move there quickly when they are not overpriced consignment pieces.

There's been a Model 3913 sitting there for a while at $425 but I wasn't impressed. It showed signs of wear plus someone had put on a gray wrap-around grip from a 3913LS or NL. Didn't really add anything to the street appeal of a slightly cosmetically challenged 3913.

But what I still can't get over is that Model 4506-1 priced at $699. It's a consignment gun and it's in fairly decent shape, but that's about $150 over the one I found in RI and at least $100 over others I've spotted elsewhere. Somehow, Carl has managed to sell several Model 4506/4506-1 pistols at that price ($699) so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that this current one is priced at the same level. It just seems a little high sitting there in a shop that is known for fair prices and moving desirable guns fast.

Yes, it was a good deal for someone looking for a "high capacity" semi auto in MA. Two mags are a good place to start, you can usually find them here and there.

I don't have any interest in another 3913, so I didn't look at the one Carl has. Same with the 4506-1, but from what I've read here, that seemed pretty high.

He moves enough volume, new and used, that he can afford to let a gun sit on the shelf for a while now and again.

I bought my police trade-in 6906 for $249 (IIRC).
I wouldn't let it go, period.

So, where can I get the recall grips?
I need them for both the 6906 (Square TG, hell yeah), AND for my 5906 (also Square TG)

I have a thing for square TG 3rd gens. I love them.
Not that I would or have turned my nose up at a round TG 3rd gen.
My 5946 and 4566 are both round TG.
Then, there's my 52-1 1965 Camp Perry Trophy gun.
I still need to letter it. Roy Jinks said that I need to letter it because it's "historically significant."
It's also round TG (obviously).
They are all among the last guns I would ever sell.

Back to 6906. Great little carry gun. Fun shooter, too.
It's not micro-tupperware tiny or ultralight, but it's small enough and light enough for EDC.
I didn't even realize how badly I wanted one, until I ran into a display cabinet full of popo trade-in Smiths at my local fun shop a few years ago.
I almost bought an SW99 at the same time.
Unfortunately, 5946, 5906, 6906, and 4566 sucked up all my fun money at the time.
I guess I should have put the SW99 on layaway, since I've always coveted the P99.
Then again, I have a Ruger SR9 that I'm extremely happy with.

I wouldn't fault you for getting a SW99. It's the only plastic wonder that I haven't sold off and it's what started my Smith collecting. It's a tack driver and I love being able to stage the trigger if I so desire. The availability of 16 round mags is also a plus.

Since you're a square 3rd gen collector, do you know if the earlier 6906 accepts the Novak sights or do they only take the regular Trijicons? I have my eye on one, but I want to be able to put Novaks on it.

An early slide with a fixed pre-Novak rear sight will need to be machined for a Novak sight to work.

Oh, I wanted the SW99 very badly, as I've always liked the P99.
I just couldn't afford all of them.
Plus, my 5906, 5946, 6906, and Daewoo DP51 all take 59 series mags. I can take all of them to the range, and just bring a bunch of 5906 mags to run through them.
Now, I need a Marlin Camp Carbine and a KelTec P11.

wow, a lot of conversation over a simple question. But that’s ok this is what the forum is all about. Finally picked up a very nice 6906 with 2 12 round mags and square trigger guard for $ 300 from an individual who says he bought it new sometime late 90s early 2000s ? He’s elderly and not sure of time frame.Anyway i can’t find any marks indicating it is a trade in. Very nice pistol I think it’s a keeper but does not have the dimple on bottom of grip. Grip is in excellent condition but I guess I should call S&W anyway. But now I know where 2 3913s for sale are. Oh does this sickness ever end !?
