Exclamation Need Info. On S&W 4006 (40 Cal.) Special Ejector Bar Modifications,(Prevent(Breakage)

Hello Gunsmiths..!! I have a 4006 that has never been fired Yet. I was told by a Calif. Hwy. Patrol Motorcycle Officer that a " Special Grind to the Ejector Bar , would Prevent Breaking the Ejector Bar as The Magazine is Inserted..".( as Officers had Experienced Breakage / Damage....rendering the Gun Useless...) Probably Because the Magazine was Slammed in Too Hard, or Fast... Therefore...the Police Gunsmith had made up or set aside Special Ejector Bars that were Ground to Prevent This From Happening....I tried to contact the Station's Gunsmith Dept. , but Couldn't get any Positive Info. So, I am Seeking Any Background Info. on the Remedy...if anyone Else has Heard Anything About this , or Know how or Where to Modify This to Prevent Any Breakage...I even Contacted Smith and Wesson...and They weren't aware of any Ejector Bar- Magazine insertion Damages....Please Respond if You can Help...or Point me in the right Direction...( Has Anyone ever Heard About this Situation...??

Hi, Bill!

Welcome to the Forum!

S&W made an change to the ejector to prevent breakage and improve reliability.
IIRC they extended the tip to initiate ejection earlier in the cycle and radiused the underside, below and behind the tip, to eliminate a sharp corner where cracks were prone to begin.

Hopefully, someone will be along with pictures of the new style versus old style ejector.

I hope this helps.

John

Hi bill, first , all chp guns were test fired at the factory and at the academy range before issue.no such thIng as a unfired gun in our dept..second, no such thing as a "special ejector". All ejectors were factory ejectors and all the same.a remedy, prevention: don't slap the mags in. Lastly, the first 4006 started out with 9mm ejectors ( short with an angle cut).then, replaced to the long ejector with a radius cut and continued on the TSW. Hope this helps.

Oh and Bill, check your ejector depressor plunger( the black polymer plunger underneath your slide). When the ejector breaks it usually damages it as it is sharp. CHP gunsmith
