639?? And 6906 Question
Wondering about 639....anyone have experience with one? Price? Or should I just keep looking for a 908?
I've got a 6906 and really, really like it. Trigger is just fine but I'm wondering if anyone has replaced the hammer spring like I've done with my Berettas by putting in a "D" spring to lighten the DA pull.

Swapping out hammer springs is pretty common. Wolff makes a variety of weights. You can weigh the increase in chance of light strike versus the benefit of lighter trigger pull for your particular application. Personally, I don't think it makes enough of a difference to be worth it, but it's pretty subjective.

I bought a new 639 back when they were in production, and owned a second years later. They are full sized single stack pistols, as opposed to your compact 6906 double stack type. The 908 is a compact single stack economy/ "Value Line" pistol. One can certainly install lighter mainsprings in these guns. I've owned a number of S&W semi-autos over the years, but never felt the need to install lighter springs.......ymmv

The 908 and 639 are very different pistols. The 639 is a full-sized, full weight service pistol. The 908 is smaller and lighter.

Stick to the 639, 6906 or if you want a quality smaller model the 3913 or 3914. The 908 sure is an economy model with a plastic guide rod for the slide spring.
