I got a chance for a 745
I'm undecided;I don't have anybody to refer to for an opinion for a 745 with fixed sights I could get for around $60(condition vg to exc).Anybody has one?How does it compare to a Gold Cup?How is the trigger?

I think you may want to post this someplace other than a revolver forum. I also assume that you mean $600, not $60.
Adios,

I am guessing that $60 is a typo or you would already own it and be bragging about the great deal you got.
The Model 745 is not a Gold Cup or even close to a Gold Cup. It is simply a Single Action Only version of the Model 645. No extra design or fitting went into making it a more accurate firearm.
If you are looking for an outstanding Smith and Wesson 45ACP Autoloader, the Model 845 can not be beat. In terms or trigger and accuracy think of a 45ACP version of the Model 52. However they are hard to find
I am a big Gold Cup fan. The first auto loader I ever purchased NEW was a Colt Gold Cup almost four decades ago. While that first Gold Cup is now retired, I have added several since that purchase so long ago.
That Blue Gold Cup Commander with the Ivory grips is my BBQ auto loader. It has been to two Inaugurations, three Funerals and four Weddings . . . . so far. It rides in a Galco Windsor shoulder rig
So while the Model 745 is not as accurate as a Gold Cup, the Gold Cup is not as accurate as a Model 845

This should be posted in the Smith and wesson semi auto pistols section.
Not here.

I've got a Series 70 Gold Cup, and I also have a M645,745, and a M945. I have been on the hunt for a M845, but they are elusive. Sevens texted me with a link on GB, and it ended up going for north of $3000. Now the M745 is a nice piece in itself, but like it's been said, it's no Gold Cup. But for that price, it's worth it. Are you getting the box? Now I can't speak for the M845, but if you want a .45, look for a M945.

Another 845 sold on Gunbroker last night for a "buy it now" of $2,300. That one definitely went under market.
I think we determined something like 485 made across the two versions of 845 pistols (for distribution in North America) so yes, they aren't too easy to find.

I have two very early 745s with Millett sights and no IPSC logos. Over 20K rounds through one and 4K through the other. Mine are tack-drivers and like their older brother, an early 645, will load empty cases without choking. Dave_n

I had an early 745 with fixed sights. Gave it to my daughter since she shot it so well. I had a GC at the time. It probably had a better trigger, but wasn't more accurate. Both were about 2-1/2-3"guns.

I think that it is not the original box;it is the dark blue plastic case. Were they using such in these years?

Absolutely not. The one piece flip-top cardboard box is the only box the 745 came in.

Haha, that simply -had- to be a reboxed, re-labeled pistol sent out by S&W years after it was originally made. I have an example of that being done also and it has happened... often it's handguns that were used as traveling specials and "show" guns, other guns that were in storage and seemingly forgotten.
That's definitely the first time I have seen a 745 issued that way.
Pretty neat! "Spec Ord." suggests early 1988, many years before S&W ever used that style of box.

Also interesting -- not a 745 magazine pictures in the box, that's a later 4506 magazine in there. (they work perfectly well)
Never heard of a 745 through Lew Horton either, but always learning.

I was just teasing again.
It was 1998, not 1988, explaining the box AND magazines.
I posted all about it a little more than a year ago. It was not
a Lew Horton run. Earl Minot said they just got 15 of them in
March and April of 1998. All sold right away.
Officially, according to S&W and Roy Jinks, it's a 745 Performance
Center Special.
