Default CS45 Range Report

Fired the CS45 yesterday at local outdoor range. Used Seller & Bellot 230 grain ammo.

Had a few instances where the slide locked back and did not feed the next round. Happened maybe five times in shooting six mags. Initially I thought the ammo was the problem but now I suspect something else caused the lockup. A slight pull and release and the slide properly loaded the round.

Any ideas why the slide locked back occasionally? Thanks for the feedback.

No idea, unless the firearm was dirty, or had a weak spring. I would try several different types of ammo before blaming the pistol. My CS 45 never does that.

If your slide locked back, the pistol thought you ran out of ammo. Did you shoot six different mags or reload just one?

Hard to tell from six thousand miles away, but it is literally going to be a long shot! lol! First of all, I assume you cleaned up the pistol throughout? My take would be:
The slide release lever, has a spring and rod pinned to it. This spring loaded rod pushes against a dimple on the side plate, that resides under the left side of the grip. Its work is to keep the slide release out of the slide's way until the magazine follower dictates otherwise. If this side plate has loosened up, (u shape cut gone wider over sear pin) or that pinned rod is not holding up securely, there is a good chance that under recoil, the slide release may move up, and slightly in the way of the slide, thus holding it back. Just check if your slide release lever is nice and tight when at rest. Also, if you have a chance to shoot the gun again, deliberately hold the slide release down with your left thumb and see what it does. Anyhow, nice pistol friend! I am sure this problem it is an easy fix in the end.

The CS45 was clean. I used only two mags, alternating them. Lockup happened with each mag. For the next range session I will use another brand of ammo, though S&B has served me well over the years.

Thanks to all for the responses.

Those mags were the CS45 specific mags with the correct followers? Is the slide stop intact and contacting the follower when the mag is empty?

If the slide is locking back while there is ammo in the mag, its being pushed up. Probably by the round coming up and contacting it.

But I just ran 100 230 grain S&B ball through my CS45 with no issues last week. So I'm inclined to think you have a mag or slidestop issue. Hopefully FastBolt will be along to opine. What he has forgotten about the CS45 none of us will ever know.

I actually had a problem with mine while shooting up some old carry rounds. RA45T 230 grain. As always, FastBolt helped me! Seems that my CS45 likes ammothat is a little less hot. So she will be eating Speer Gold Dots from now on. Regards 18DAI

I agree with all of those guys. My CS-45 digested everything I ever ran threw it. Including S&B. Scored 248 out of 250 on the Texas CHL test with that gun.

No chance that you are bumping the slide stop with your thumb? Been known to happen.

Sometimes a piece of 230 Ball can be "just" long and fool the slide stop into engaging. The advice to try another brand is what I would try first.

Appreciate the feedback. The mags were S&W made for CS45. I will pay close attention next time on thumb placement.

Hoping the gun has decided it does not like S&B ammo. I will certainly change ammo if that turns out to the problem!

Could also be something as simple as grip.
You want to keep a firm grip with smaller 45's...

I had to mentally change my habit of holding my pistols
archery-style...or motorcycle-style...neither of those
are gripped firmly unless something goes horribly wrong

"Hold on loosely! But don't let go!" is great for bikes and
archery, but for pistols, not so much
