Default S&W 4006TSW CHP Decocker

Can the decocker on the 4006TSW be replaced with safety/decocker from regular gen 3 without a lot of gunsmithing. I have parts from 45TSW and 6906 Just like regular safety/decocker better

I don't have any personal experience doing it but I believe so... as long as the CHP slide has the two notches for the ambi safety body's plunger/spring (the CHP model doesn't have these two parts) already machined in it (at about 2 & 5 o'clock on the left side's safety opening), and you have the complete non-resetting body assembly, I think it should.

Hopefully someone else can confirm.

Yes, it can be replaced with the 6906 safety body, though you may have to adjust or fit a new sear release lever to keep the decock timing within spec. I did this on one of my 4006TSW CHP's and love it.

Do you know if that part fits the single stack 4013? I have one that is decock only and I'm trying to scrounge up a spare in case I ever need one.

The 4013 single stack is on the large frame & takes a different ambi body than the one for the medium frame 4006TSW.

You'll need one that also fits a: 4506, 4516, 4566, 4513TSW, 1006, or 1066. S&W PN# 106010000 (ambi safety, body only)

That's what I was afraid of. Downside to being new to 3rd gen autos is I'm late to the parts party.

Just means you have to buy more guns to fit the parts
that you now have

What happens if I remove return spring from decocker will it preform just like standard old style safety decocker

The CHP decocker will only stay in the 'fire' position without a spring, it uses a different plunger system than a regular TDA safety body. Use a 9mm/40sw TDA safety body if you want it to be able to stay in both the 'safe' and 'fire' positions.

Also need to put Ed Brown safety on 4506 wish I had one for 4006 really like Ed Brown safety. Did you ever try one. Don't make them anymore

Here's a good video by a fellow forum member on the removal of the safety body:

To check that decock timing is good with the new safety body in place, re-assemble the gun and cock the hammer. Then take a 5/64" drill bit and place the flat end in the bottom of the depression for the left safety lever, and try and decock the gun. The gun should not decock with that spacer in place. If it does, the sear release lever needs to be adjusted. This means taking a slight amount off of the bottom of the sear release lever while maintaining the original angle of the lever, which can be tricky. It also involves taking the frame of the gun down and re-assembling numerous times while you check the new adjustment, so I wouldn't say it's an easy thing if you're not familiar with this process. It would be a good idea to have a few spare sear release levers on hand if you try it.

If you do try it, the second spacer to check with is a .045" drill bit, and the lever should drop with this bit in place. If all this seems too daunting to try, another option would be to pick up another safety body or two, and see if those work better with your existing sear release lever.

Got 3 Ed Brown safety's on standard gen 3 guns didn't know that they will work on decocker only and don't have another to try. Going to try standard safety on it. Not a fan of decocker only. Will standard safety work on decocker only models. Could not open video

Thanks
