Default S&W 3914

I'm not what you would call a S&W fanboy but I've been wanting one of these or one of the variants for a while now...didn't think I would find a NIB version in my own back yard.

Hope it shoots as good as I have heard...

If so...a nice piece of leather and it could become my new EDC.

That's a nice looking piece. I'm sure it will shoot fine for you.

My 3914NL is one of my carry pieces.
Easy to conceal.

Great looking 3914, and as others have pointed out, it should make a fine carry piece. I certainly love mine. You have an early version with the slimmer safety levers and slide stop that really conceals well.

It also appears from the color of the grips that they may be the early grips that were recalled due to the material being prone to cracking. To be sure, check for a dimple on the bottom of your grips (like the one in the attached photo). If it does not have a dimple, call S&W at 1-800-331-0852 and they should let you exchange the grips for a new set.

I suspect you will be quite pleased with its ability to shoot. They are popular for reason.
Please give us a range report!

I discovered from another enthusiast that this one was made in Oct of 1989 so it is indeed an early one....very early from what I can gather. Blue book states they began in 1990 :-)

My grips don't have the dimple so they haven't been replaced...not surprising as it was still new in the box.

Thanks for that feedback...much appreciated.

Congrats on the new 3914!

I shot mine yesterday. Id forgotten how accurate and easy to shoot the 3914 is. I was using up some old 147 grain Winchester RA9T and some 115 grain range fodder.

That 147 grain hits a steel plate with authority! And the accuracy of the 3914 made cleaning a plate rack almost too easy.

Kid I was shooting with had an XDs9. I let him try the 3914. Now he is searching for one. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI

All of the 3rd Gen guns are that way. I might take one to the range later today. I have to admit though, that I've taken to carrying my 36-1 3" quite a bit of late. Still, it's not as easy or as accurate to shoot as any of my 39xx compacts.

Drifting into "wish list" territory, a 3913/14 with a Melonite finish, left side only decocker, and no rail, would be a great gun.

If only...

Looks a lot like the 457 I just got. I look forward to shooting mine for the first time real soon.

Well, I do have a 3914NL, so it makes sense. I was wondering the other day what I could sell it for. Then, I hit myself in the head with a hammer and came to my senses!

I was pondering which handgun(s) to take to the range if I can get there tomorrow. Thanks to your picture, it's going to be my 3914NL. It doesn't get nearly enough range time!

I found what I would consider an ANIB Model 3913 a couple of months ago at my LGS. Unfortunately, it didn't come with a box, papers, etc., but that made the price even better. I found that a Bianchi holster for a Sig 239 9mm fits perfectly; the one I bought was the #7 Shadow 2.

Made it to the range today. As usual, a 3rd Gen made me look like an expert. 21 feet (or so), 124 gr Winchester White Box, 50 rounds. As a bonus, I also got the 457 to the range, but forgot to take a picture before I put a new target up. Those groupings were not quite as tight, but in the process I discovered that I had too much trigger finger in. So, I backed that off to just beyond the first joint and this is the result.
