457 for the price of a cheap clone
At the local gun show today I ran into an older guy wanting to sell his S&W 457. Came with 3 factory magazines, and LH Tex Shoemaker pancake holster and double mag carrier set. Looked almost brand new - not a mark on it that I could find. High edges just a tad buffed from being holstered.
He was asking $350, I offered $300 and we settled on $335. I figured that was a pretty good price since that is what a new ATI 1911 clone is going for with only 1 magazine.

Nice if you're left handed ...
But nice at the price without the extras.

Now that it what I call good timing! Great deal I'd say, and if you happen to be a lefty, well, it was just meant to be! Congratulations!

Yeah, I figured it was a decent deal even without the extra mags & leather.
Unfortunately I'm not a lefty, so I won't be able to get much use out of the holster. I'll list it here for sale, and if no takers, off to GunBroker it will go....

There is nothing better than running into a guy at your local LGS trying to sell a gun that you happen to like. People pray to God for situations like that because you know that you'll always be able to beat what the shop is willing to pay the guy for it!

Actually I wasn't as clear as I should have been in the original post. I was actually at a local gun SHOW (not local gun SHOP), but the same principle applies. I went back and edited it to clarify.
I heard him talking to a guy who had a booth with several guns on display and for sale. I overheard the guy telling the older gentleman that the package was probably worth $450, but that he couldn't give him more than about half of that.
After he walked away from the booth I approached him and asked what it was that he was selling. When I saw it was a near pristine S&W in 45acp I made an offer of $300. He came back with $335, and we shook on it and went looking for a FFL to do the transfer.
One of the great things about this particular show is that there is a local FFL (who I have done other business with BTW) who does transfers for free at the show. And since I wasn't buying it from a business, I didn't even have to pay sales tax either! Double win!

You not only got a good deal, you did a good thing. The seller made more money than he'd have selling it the FFL and you got a great deal. The free transfer is just frosting on the cake.

I'm pretty new to S&W semi-autos. I only have two others - both first gen (M59 & M61).
The 457 is a second gen, right?

Actually, it's a 3rd Gen. It's the "Value Line" version of the 4513TSW, only without the TSW features.

Something like 10% of the population I think...

Digging through my holster box, I found a Galco WB457 left hand holster. I won't link to my add, but it's not hard to find.

I wish I could go to your gun shows. Nice S&W's never go that cheap around here. It's getting hard to find a Taurus at that price.

Google is your friend (well, kinda sorta... maybe not so much anymore).
Welcome to Zanders Sporting Goods | Zanders Sporting Goods
They are a wholesale sporting goods distributor out of Illinois. Like Lew Horton, they sometimes special ordered guns built to their own specs. Your Zander Model 908 is one of them.
