My 457 was made in late 1998 and the serial number is KMFxxxx. A guess would be that your gun is late production (production ended in 2006). There isn't a lot of information on 3rd Gen serial numbers published.
If you call customer service and give them the full serial number, they should be able to give you the month and year of manufacture.
If it came with the original box, you can find the production date on the end label. The "Spec Ord" number is the manufacture date. The first digit is the year, the next three are the Julian day.
For example, my gun has 8307. So, it was made on the 307th day of 1998.

Are you sure that "Y" isn't a "V"?

That would be the infamous 1997 Zander Sports version.

So true! We should explain that in another thread and off-line, we discussed a Zander Sports Model 457 that has lingered for years in a Massachusetts gun shop (one that does our MA shows) because it is somewhat over-priced for its "so-so" uncared condition. To get the "really big bucks" out of a Zander 457 (per the Bible's 2X comment), my feeling is that it needs to be damn near ANIB.

That's my feeling as well. The one we discussed via PM was in so so condition. In fact, my none Zander 457 is in much better shape. The Zander guns look sharp when new, but the black slide wears quickly and it starts to look like a used gun.
A shooter grade Zander is worth no more than any other shooter grade 457.

ZanderSports 457
These guns have an interesting history, given ZanderSports location and the Chicago Police Department's interest in this piece. I've had as many as three 457's at one time, and several others over time. They're great shooters, especially considering their "value-line" heritage. The one remaining in my collection is a well-loved ZanderSports - yes the sharp edges of the slide are showing some holster wear. Mine's got an improved set of sights and some work done its internals - I prefer it to a CS45.
