Default Model 41 Mag Problems...

I had mentioned in another post that I had issues with one of the mags that can e with my recently acquired 1979/80 Model 41. Two of the four mags appear to be of a newer production batch than the others, featuring plastic followers, and slightly different feed lip contours. One of two newer mags does not want to seat into the firearm without a fight, even when completely empty, as I found out last night while putzing around with them. The other newer style mag will seat, but does need a little bit of a wiggle to get it in. At this point, I cannot tell what is causing the mags to hang up on the way in, and I cannot disassemble them to try and sort it out piece by piece as I had initially considered.

What I am wondering from my fellow 41 owners, is if anyone else has the same issue with an older 41 and newer mags not fitting right, and what I need to do to remedy this problem?

Thanks!

I had something like that with a couple of mags for my 41. The problem turned out to be the inside of the grips were a bit proud of the metal frame and were dragging on the mags. A little careful sanding on the inside of the grips took care of it. Because other mags worked fine, I guess the root cause was the problem mags being a bit wider than the others, but I found it easier to sand the grips a bit rather than try somehow to skinny up the mags.

Try this. Take the grips off, incl. the screws. Any better? Now the mag button. Still sticking? Take the slide off. Now you can see. Some mags are a tad longer than the ones that fit perfectly. My remedy, sell that mag and buy some new ones. Life is to short, to frustrate the heck out of yourself over a mag. If you want to file, grind, stone, etc., go at it.

If these are newer mags I would return to the dealer they were bought from and either obtain a rebate or replacements for them. Take the gun with you to show the dealer the problem as well which should help a lot.
