I have an extra used one from a model 52 no dash that I would sell but I don't know if it could be modified to extract 9mm cases. Maybe there is a gunsmith with machining skills on the forum that could answer that for you.
Good luck;
Mike

finally got one from Jack First, however its not an original Smith part, they are new manufactured and are cast, finish is matte black and does NOT match the Smith model 39 polished blue finish.
anyways fell on some hard times and I just had to put this up on Gunbroker, message me if you want the auction number or search same user name as I use on the forums
thanks for the help

That 39 no dash long extractor, breaks easily, all stocks of replacement parts gone! They changed to a normal (shorter) extractor with dash.
Good luck!!!!!!

If you want the gun to be a shooter the most practical thing to do is replace the entire slide assembly with the later 39-2 slide. This is available from Numrich. Watch the locking recesses in the slide though, this is a used part and the locking recesses are subject to damage. Slide Assembly, Used (w/ Late Style Extractor & Adjustable Rear Sight) |

Al, Im trying to establish if this breakage thing is true. I have been told tales of breakage because of cleaning and loading from the breech, not the mag.

I base my statement on the SCSW, page 343 Model 39-2 "The 39-2 has an alloy frame and carbon steel slide with a redesigned extractor (shorter) due to breakage of the longer extractor in earlier 39's."
I am not an expert, never seen the longer one, but will take their word for it. The Ruger P-85 also had a supposed problem, Ruger will still modify any P-85 returned to the MK II.
