Latest Addition To My 46 Collection
Just received my latest addition to the collection. It's the S&W 46 heavy barrel version of which only 500 where manufactured making it somewhat of a rare pistol.

Nice catch, what vintage is as there was two series back then serial no. wise. Does not appear to have the plastic grips on it but the old original 41 style instead.

Yes it did and I'm seriously considering having it lettered by Roy Jinks.

Even better catch if they are the original factory grips. The serial no's are close to mine and it works out to 1963.

Is the only difference between the 46 and 41 the finish details ( sort of like Models 27 and 28) ?

Yes indeed. The 46 was the poor man's version of the 41. Rough around the edges, so to speak.

Indeed. The birth of the 46 came about when the US Air Force inquired about a less expensive version of the Model 41.
