My First Gen 3, A 5906 TSW
Hey All,
Just purchased my first Gen 3... a used 5906 TSW LE trade in. Pistol arrived yesterday in really good shape, and I field stripped it to clean and relube. At 38.08 oz unloaded it's a brick of a gun, but that's what I wanted it. I've often thought about picking up a 5906 but never have, and saw this for sale online and figured now was the time.
I'm sure many of you own this variant, so curious for any insight into your experience with this pistol and/or anything that might come up as a "watch for this" item.
Looking forward to taking this classic chunk of steel out to the range on Saturday!

Congratulations on a fine pistol and thanks for posting a picture. Most folks who acquire a 3rd gen like you did opt to replace the recoil spring at a minimum. I started off with a 5906 about 3 years ago, and now I own several different models, including a 6906, 4566TSW, 4043, 5946TSW, 3953TSW, and a 645. They tend to multiply...and I'm thinking about another one.

Nice score indeed!! The Tactical line is one of my favorites. Feels awesome in the hand for target shooting. Got to fire one at the S&W shooting range in Springfield when they came out. Very impressed

Thank you. I will look into a new recoil spring. Looking forward to shooting this at the range. It weighs almost as much as my Dan Wesson Specialist, and in a 9mm with my light range loads I'm guessing this is going to feel like nothing!

Congrats on a fine pistol, and likely the start of a very healthy 3rd Gen addiction! The 5906TSW is one heck of a machine, and this is a great time to pick one up as the last of the LEO trade-in's are hitting the market.
They make a great house gun, soak up recoil very well (even with hot +P+ loads), and both of mine are very accurate with tight slide-to-frame fits. My main 5906TSW sports a bobbed hammer, one-piece guide rod, and XS 24/7 Big Dot night sights. Hope you enjoy yours!

5906's were always heavy, overbuilt weapons and the TSW versions were even heavier. They will, however, stand up to tons of +P and +P+ loads.
