Trijicon should be able to re-lamp the sights for $57. You're lucky to have any glow at all after 18 years.

Nice!! That is a fantastic deal.

I've been trolling for my next big bore 3rd gen. Went back and forth between a 4506-1 and a 4566.

Ended up with a 1076.

Go figure...

But congrats. That's awesome.

Hi Jaimie. You did extremely well sir! Congratulations on your purchase. As an older guy I can tell you that I went through the fad of polymer guns. I have nothing bad to say about them ( although I own none lol ). They do the job they are tasked to do. That having been said, when I hold one of my steel S&W pistols in my hand, it is like shaking hands with John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, or Charles Bronson.

Thanks guys, thats good to know about the sights being able to be revamped. I had a Sig that still lit after 20 some years too years back. Guess I'm lucky or radioactive...yes indeed the 1076 is a fine stallion! I still have the space set aside for the 1006 when it appears someday. I agree the polymer guns are neat but there is just something special about the 80's and 90's guns! Takes me back to that special time as a young man when the gun magazines showed them, telling myself someday,someday....

I'd say you did very well indeed. The one I'm after is $599 plus tax & fees and only comes with one magazine and no box. Can't even do layaway on it because I'm an out-of-state buyer.

Opps! Correction: It comes with two magazines.

Be careful scrubbing around inside the frame with a toothbrush, there's a tiny little bronze-colored leaf spring that's easily bent, which results in the infamous "4506 trigger click". The pistol will still function, but it's annoying as hell.
I had the click, and after some research, just bent it back straight, and it worked. But I've read that this fix often doesn't last, and it will eventually need replacement.
I got a spare spring sent to me free from S&W's CS a couple years ago, but don't know if they still have them on hand. Last I checked, Brownells sold the spring and tiny rivet for $10-15.
Anyway, you got a killer deal on a spectacular pistol !!

Yes, pay heed to what Mark IV said above. My 4506 no dash began to "click" which was a result of overzealous cleaning with a toothbrush.

You did great! The 4506 is my favorite semi-auto. I suspect yours will be like mine...accurate and reliable and not to mention beautiful.

The other day I showed mine to a friend who had never seen a 3rd Gen .45. His first word was SWEEEEET! After checking out the trigger pull and overall fit and function he said, "I'm gettin' one of these". I said, "Good luck finding one".

Thanks,my gold spring is defiantly broken I thought the trigger just clicked. I always wondered what that little gold colored thingy was now I know! I tried bending it and it snapped rite off. Have to find a replacement somewhere. Is it ok to use the gun with that spring missing or will it get messed up?

Doesn't hurt the pistol at all.
Just annoying.

If your spring snapped when you tried to bend it, I'd say there's a good chance this remedy has been tried before, and it just couldn't take any more bending.
MidwayUSA looks to have the spring in stock, not sure about the rivet.
Smith & Wesson Trigger Play Spring S&W 3953TSW - MPN: 234230000

...aaaand here's the rivet !!!!
Smith & Wesson Trigger Play Spring Rivet S&W 3953TSW - MPN: 068770000

I merely googled the parts, and then posted what came up, but now looking closer, I'm not 100% sure these are correct parts for the 4506, though they look identical. So, double-check, first.

As i posted earlier, Brownells has the parts. Midway's are probaly correct, too, but Brownells ad specifically states the 4506, so play it safe, go with them.

Cool beans, that works, I forgot about Numrich.
All of these gen 3 Smiths are famous for eating everything, and Gold Dots (as I assume these Speers are) have been among the best and most popular pistol rounds, for years, so I'm confident they'll run great in yours.
For general blasting ammo, be sure and check Sportsmanguide. Their selection is pretty decent, and prices usually very competetive, but the free shipping codes they almost always run, often make them aboot the best deal around.
Here's a good deal on what I've always found to be excellent ammo, Fiocchi. Hard to beat name-brand, brass-cased, US-made 45 ammo, for $15.99,delivered !! ( free shipping over $49, w/ code SH2600).
