Default Question on S&W 1911s

I'm a Colt 1911 guy. I'm considering testing the S&W 1911 waters. The scandium frame commander models are calling to me

What are the differences betwixt the E series commander model and the PC commander model (with the frame cut ports)?

Is there any reason to spend a few hundred bucks more for the PC version over the E series? Any difference in fit and finish or reliability?

Thanks

As a Colt Guy as well when it comes to 1911's I know little about the Smith 1911's. What I can recommend is that before buying one version or the other I'd seriously try and find both that you can actually shoot! This way you will have a first hand experience between the two. You might try fellow Club Members, rental guns at Ranges, etc. This way you could possibly save yourself from being disappointed and also aid in making the correct choice.

The PC guns have the Briley bushing in them from what I gather. Those help with accuracy by ensuring an more consistent lock up. Are you going to use it as a range/competition gun or are you looking for combat accuracy? I have a 1911SC, it's plenty accurate for my needs.

Hi,
I have no experience with your paticular model.

I do have a "Billboard" S&W 1911 and would put it up to a COLT anyday!

I want the .45 1911 commander with the bobtail SC frame!

S&W does know how to make a top class 1911!

I have an e series and am very happy with it. I prefer it over the SIG I currently own and the SA as well as colt 1911s I’ve previously owned. It is a well made gun that I shoot well.
That said, I recently picked up a Dan Wesson Specialist commander and am super impressed with its quality. Of the three 1911s I currently own, the DW is the best by far.
