Model 6906
Getting a NIB 6906 tomorrow in trade for a used Springfield GI 1911. While I've got dozens of smith 3rd gen guns, they all are in the 4500 and 1006 and 5900 series, this will be my first of the 6906 line. I'm getting it because this past weekend at the gunshow I came across a dealer clearing out 6906 factory mags at 10 bucks each and bought them all.
Anyone got any bad comments on this model smith?

Built several of them at one of my armorer re-cert classes. (actually purchased one of the pistols I constructed)
They are great guns, and are very accurate in my experience. More accurate, some say, than the longer barrel (4 inch) 3rd gen models.

Certainly not me. I bought one new in 1994, been carrying it daily since then. Changed out the recoil spring at about 10K rds. Never have shot a round of "+P" in it. Joe

I usually prefer the single stacks but I sure like my 6904. +2 adapter makes it an excellent high capacity carry gun. It doesn't get singled out for pics much but here it is top left. I swapped out the safety/de-cocker for a single sided version and am happy with that as well.

Thanks all, I picked it up today. Looks and feels great. With all my 3rd gen models, I can't figure why I didn't get one of these other than the fact it's got a lightweight frame. Another plus is all my 5900 series mags will work just fine.

Glad you're liking it!
A 6906 is a nice compliment to any 3rd Gen collection.

I foolishly sold one I got in a trade that was probably 90% and had night sights just because it didn't sit right in my hands. A 6906 is once again back on my list to collect.

My 6904 was my introduction to the third gen line. I've had it for about two years now, and I will never give it up. I agree on the accuracy--mine will shoot with my Berettas and Sigs all day. Often better. And it's a great size for carry.
I've said it before and I'll it again: why don't they still make 'em?

I have several 6906's and 6904's. Great pistols.
BTW, You stole those mags at $10 each. The factory 6906 mags are getting very hard to find lately. New in package ones will bring $40 and up nowadays. If any are factory 10 rounders, they bring even more on ebay. There is a big demand for them in California.

Kept one in the pickup for many years, never missed a trip to the range either. Very accurate for a short barrel also. No complaints, sold it sometime back, wouldn't mind having it back now. I bet you'll like it.

A couple years or so back, I got a nice deal on a clean 6906 with 4 magazines on my favorite local classified site. It was a fantastic pistol, but I let it go to buy a CZ 75 BD.
But, to answer the question: No, there's no reason not to get one, they great little pistols (and not really that little, either).

LOL found another 6906 in a "stash" over the weekend...... the emergency stash includes a 4" 66 a 915...... and a 6906 with several extra magazines.
During the late 90s and early 21st century..... I'd come across 6906s and a couple of 6904s.... at giveaway prices as folks felt "the need" to switch over to those new fangled Glocks!!!!!
