Default The one that didn't get away

As some of you might remember, just before Christmas I missed out on a very well priced Mdl 457 with box and three magazines. Shame on me and good on the guy who got it.

Wednesday, with a storm bearing down on the Northeast, I did my usual perusal of the listings at one of the busiest FFLs in eastern MA. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw another 457 pop up for the same price. The only difference being that there were only two magazines, not three. Box, and paperwork, except the manual.

I called first thing Thursday morning, during the middle of the storm, to see if it was still there. It was and the shop was willing to put my name on it. They were even willing to hold it for more than their usual 48 hours due to the storm and my impending out of town weekend trip.

I got there this morning and talked to the owner. He brought the gun out and I did a quick inspection. The gun is in great shape and was shot a little, but never carried. I didn't quibble over the price, because I knew that there were others on the "wait list" in case I didn't want it. Price was $350.00 plus tax.

The "Sharpie" finish is intact, including on the rails. It needs a good cleaning and lubrication, but I do that to all "New to me" guns. Serial # is TDP93xx. Based on the information in the 4th Edition of the SCSW, that makes it a 1999 production gun. Spec. Order Code is 9316, so that should make it a late 1999 gun.

The magazines will get cleaned and inspected, with new springs if needed.

Speaking of springs, I'll buy a set of recoil springs and replace those.

Pictures to follow later on.

Score!!!

Does that mean you'll be putting your pre-rail 3953TSW up for sale now?

Hmmmm. Perhaps we can make a deal on it?

If I can ever get my hands on a 3914DAO, I'd certainly consider seller or trading the 3953TSW.

Thanks. I'm very happy with the acquisition. My other 457 is about a year older and has a bit more wear. Neither is particularly worn, though.

Thanks. 3-4 years ago, they were all over the place at relatively low prices. Lately, the supply has dried up and the few that are around are pretty pricey. I seem to remember a couple at gun shows last fall going for around $500.00. Even for gun shows, that's a high price.

At this price, I'd have kicked myself for not buying.

Because I know the rules! Here are a couple of pictures of the new acquisition. I ordered a spring set from Springco. The ones that Midway had last week are out of stock again. I'll do the clean, lube, and replace springs job when that comes in. I've already replaced the magazine springs, although the originals aren't bad at all.

As I said, pretty clean.
