Default 439 ?

Seen a real nice 439 at a gun show today, it did not have that real big rear sight with the wings like I have seen on them, just a standard one, did they come either way? Also did not have wood grips terry

The S&WCA only indicated that it had the "winged" adjustable sights... it could be a transitional gun where they used up the supply of old 39-2 slides... but I would doubt that as the 2nd gens introduced the firing pin safety feature that the 39-2 didn't have.

Having said that, if I ran across a gun like what you saw, I'd pull the slide off and check for the existence of a firing pin safety plunger in the slide and if there wasn't one, but the lever to activate it is there... someone swapped the slide.

My 439 has fixed sights, the rear being a conventional dovetail just like the one jsbethel posted above, not the "lollipop" style, windage screw adjustable sights found on the 39 and 39-2.
