I have a 915 slide on a 6906. Dedicated carry piece with tritium front and some general slicking-up. Today i cut the slide giving it a hipower-ish feel. Kinda cool!

Birchwood Casey perma-blue paste. It works way better than one would expect. Brush it on with one of those foam brushes.

Add me to the group-- not only does it look fantastic, you did the work (nicely!) to parts from two extremely high production service grade handguns. Even the stuffiest of loudmouths can't (or shouldn't) cry about GASP altering a production handgun.

That's extremely sharp. You should do more of them!

I built a similar FrankenSmith........ haven't put enough rounds through it yet to make it my primary carry.......found the parts and am thinking about adding a 59xx hammer to mine.

Well Squidsix inspired me to get back to work on my Concealed Carry FrankenSmith CCO......

A 6906 frame/ 915 upper...... just got it back with a 59xx full hammer ..... had the Gunsmith check it out; added the stippled grips and a magazine with a trimmed down base plate........ am waiting for a Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight. Raining to hard to put some rounds down range....... has been fired before; but only about 50 rds.

I have had some bumps in the road with this one. Took some fitting but it works great now. Thanks for the kind words guys

From an Engineers viewpoint I would be a bit concerned about the effect of the Mass reduction reducing the Breach Lock Time causing the barrel to drop from the slide before the pressure in the case has dropped low enough. If you find you have torn extractor edges on your cases or see a lot of flash through the ejection port you'll know the cause for this.

I thought of that, but then realized that S&W already made cuts like this on the PC9 and some other PC pistols, with no ill effect.
Shooting it today with some carry loads so I will report back regarding the performance of the thing, but I am not worried.

Hmmmm... I kind of like that.

Shot 200 rounds this morning. Mostly 147 Grain Remington Golden Saber, with some 147gr truncated cone FMJ mixed in.
Not one issue. The Trijicon front sight needed to be shifted left just a hair initially but then all was normal. Accuracy is exactly the same on the 6906 frame as it would be on a 915 frame, which I expected. One of my aftermarket mags gave me fits, so I hung it from a branch and shot it full of holes.
All told, this was a cool little adventure, making a S&W third gen "CCO" 9mm. I think total cost (factoring in the 6906 slide I sold and the 915 slide I bought) was almost exactly the same as a decent 6906 ($500ish).
Carrying it in a Desantis pancake right now.

Not to mention the original 6906 slide is almost certainly lighter anyway. At worst a spring change to accommodate the difference.

I assume a Bridgeport is some kind of milling machine, but no not one of those. I do 99% of my work with a file, drill, sandpaper, and scotch brite pads. This is no exception. At least in this case, I didn't have to hand-cut a front sight dovetail like I did with a model 10-5 a while back. THAT was tough on the hands.

No way! I've seen Bubba attempt such things with files, sandpaper, Dremel, etc., and they did not look that good. To do that and make it look nice with hand tools, you must have very steady hands, good eyesight, and the patience of Job.

A couple of times a month, i stand duty at a desk babysitting sleeping service members in their barracks. Boring duty, but someone has to do it. And while i cant bring a firearm on base, a slide and other parts are no problem. Gotta fill the overnight with something. Between rounds most guys watch TV. I work on gun parts.

Squidsix..... don't know about you but I really liking the balance of our....

the 4" barrel/slide does nothing to impede IWB concealed carry..... but puts a bit more weight out front and adds a bit more sight radius

My extra carry mag will be a 15 rd. factory mag with the +2 adapter...which gives me a full size 59xx/915 gun if I ever need to reload.

Exactly. The interesting part is that the overall dimensions are almost the same as a browning HiPower, albeit this is a half inch shorter. With flat floorplates from a 5906 mag, this conceals very well, and a Mec Gar 17 round mag as spare give you 30 rounds total in a very compact package that is every bit as good a fighting gun as a 5903/5904.

Nice. Mine are all spread out, oldest is 19 yougest is 5. With the exception of the 19 year old, they are not permitted to have even a smidgen of internet presence. This includes other folks pics. I am briefly very polite about people in the family posting pictures of my kids. Briefly.

That looks great squidsix - and fab pictures to boot! I'm curious how you managed to get the back of the slide to line up with the frame? Other fotos I have seen shows a noticeable mismatch. Tricky part, seems to me, is finding a 915/5906 barrel ...

I bought the entire upper half from a forum member, so the barrel came with it. As for slide/frame matchup, it seems to be about what year your pistol came out. The late model 6906 pistol came out around the same time as the 915, so they seem to match.
Earlier frames and later slides may have an overhang with a newer frame and vice versa. My 3913, 6906, and 915 (slide) all came from the factory within two years of each other, I believe.
Take heart though: There is a lot of meat at the end of 3rd gen slides. So if you have a slide hanging over the frame in the back, a good set of files is your friend.

Still, you did a really nice job on that.

Well a warm and sunny day here in the "Burbs of the Burgh" so I took my Frankensmith "6915" to the range..........

100 function test ( Whitebox 115gr FMJ) rounds fired..... not a hicup....4 different mags used.

Single & DA slow, rapid fire 3-5shot strings, and a couple of mag dumps.......3-15 yds.... about 10 rounds at 45-48yds at a clay on the bank....

using a F-TQ19 ANT target...black silhouette, Q- zone target overlay and internal organs outlined..... I won't claim a great group but 85 were in the Q and 5 in the black (close but no cigar). 10 rds at 45 yds ... first 4 shots were close....5th broke the clay... so last 4 kind of hard to judge.

But function was fine...really like the feel of this gun; going to add a fiber optic for these old eyes.... but I could tell it's been a long winter w/ a little recoil anticipation throwing some DA shots lower

Here it is, added a spur hammer from a 915. I think it makes it look just right.

very close to my Performance Center SD-9...... except the SD-9 is all stainless ... think; short butt 5906..... so a bit heavy (and rare; only 179 built) for every day concealed carry

That sounds great! I have been wishing for a 3916 myself, all the awesomeness of the 3913 and all the longevity and resilience of steel.

I bought several PC guns/autos in the mid-90s (most were used but like new or used and unfired) ...... shot some, Concealed Carried a couple , traded others...... still have four; the SD-9, two Shorty-9s and a DPA 5906 decocker only.

I had no idea at the time, how few of these PC guns were built...... IMO those early to mid- 90s guns hand built in small batches by the last of the old time gunsmiths at S&W were and are the best guns from S&W since the Registered Magnums of the 1930s.

Squidsix you ought to think about coming to the NE Ohio Bunch gathering on Oct. 5th and 6th. outside of Cleveland.
