Default Just sent in my S&W 6906 for repair...

Hopefully they cover it under warranty. In the scenario where they donít, anyone know how much I might be looking at to get the extractor replaced? It has a chip and fails to extract half the time. Itís really nice square trigger guard handgun in good shape.

Did you send it in to S&W as I advised?

I did. They weren’t able to tell me if it will be under warranty though. Fingers crossed!

When I needed the trigger play spring on my 4566 replaced, CS said no warranty because I was not the original owner. I had to pay to get it there. The tech replaced the spring and returned it at no charge. Quickly, I might add.

Make what you will of that experience. I think your CS experience will vary by who answers your call.

SMSgt brings up a good point, Aaron.

If S&W is willing to send you a pre-paid shipping tag, odds are they will fix it for free.
That's how their system usually works.

And on the off chance that they want to charge for the repair, you'll probably never find anyone more qualified to do the job.

Either way, you win!

About 5 years ago, I bought a 4004 "almost like new" which turned to have a problem with not dropping magazines 60-80% of the time. Looking closely, I decided that the ejector was bent just barely enough to touch the magazine, keeping it from dropping free. An email inquiry to S&W, mentioning only the problem and not anything about warranty or original owner, got me a shipping label. I included a letter describing the problem and what I thought was the cause. Ten days later, I got the pistol back with a new ejector and no more problem. No questions from S&W, just excellent service.

Good to hear! I know they told me 30 day turn around if it’s under warranty and 60-90 days if it isn’t a warranty repair. Hoping it doesn’t take that long, but I won’t complain. I’ll be in school and won’t have time to really shoot it anyway. I may end up picking up another since they are so affordable and nice! I’ll just leave one in my Tahoe just in case!

Did/Will they send you a call tag or did they make you send it in at your expense?

My 66-1 cracked the barrel at the forcing cone. They sent me a prepaid tag...then I paid for the return and the barrel they installed.

But it was very reasonable and they also replaced nearly every lock work component.

They sent me a FedEx prepaid label while on the phone with them. I boxed it up and right after I finished, FedEx dropped off a package and I had the delivery man take it. I went from let me give them a call to it was out of my possesion in less than an hour! It went very quickly, that alone impressed me.

Update. Received a $141 repair quote ... Being the estimate was $40 for exactly what I said was wrong with it and I think $15 shipping or something. I might as well have them fix it... No free warranty work here and probably won't get it back for anything 3-4 months at this rate. Looking forward to having it back and functioning perfect!

I ended up picking up another newer rounded trigger guard model, and my buddy grabbed one as well that is a very well worn model with the newer trigger.

Sometimes that's the way it goes. But you'll get a quality repair job and hopefully you'll get it back soon! Could've been worse.

This is just guess based on sending three 3rd Gen autos back in 2008 and 2009, but your pistol will probably come back cleaned, inspected and lubricated. In addition, you may find a couple of other parts/springs were replaced while they were at it. Let us know how everything appears and what the work order says when you get it back. Good luck.

That would be nice to see! With my luck, I got that one guy who plays 100% by the book and bills for every little thing. I'll keep everyone posted!

I paid $350 for the gun at a Gun Show, plus the $141 repair... kinda sucks seeing I could have bought another gun for $300 and probably parted this one out, but sometimes that's just how the cookie crumbles. Gambled on a warranty repair and it didn't work in my favor.

That's the same guy I expect to get for my contemplated frame re-anodizing job.

And therein lies the big potential pitfall when looking to buy the world's greatest all-metal bargain pistols.

There's something good to be said about having that pistol back in your hands in effectively new condition and 100% reliable.

It's been gone through and inspected down to its bits and pieces with parts replaced as needed by the experts who built the pistol.

$140?...not such a bad deal....IMHO...YMMV
