Welcome to the Forum
The Smith and Wesson Model 52s are designed specifically for the 38 Special Midrange 148 grain HBWC ammunition
I have never heard of anyone hand loading 38 Short Colt for functioning in the Model 52
Is your goal to use a projectile other than the 148 HBWC?

I often find experimenting to be interesting and fun. If I owned a beat-down 52 then I would probably end up doing nutty experiments with ammo and handloads, just for the fun of it.
But I would look at your suggestion and come to this conclusion:
There exists no slug made now or ever in the past that is as inherently accurate as a swaged lead hollowbase wadcutter, 148 grains, in a Model 52.
Also, .38 Short Colt brass? I guess it's out there but I have probably 5 to 10,000 pieces of .38 Special brass... I find the idea of using other brass just about ludicrous.
Could it be done? Well, a hack gunwriter years back ran .38 Super in one. I'd definitely do .38 Short Colt before considering .38 Super.

Well we don't need to criticize a new member. He's simply asking a question about ammo for the Model 52. As stated, only 38spl wadcutter ammo should be used.

It would be an interesting experiment before you dive too deep you should measure the rim diameter and thickness then load up some dummy rounds and cycle them through the action. If they cycle then you could try some live rounds with light loads (less than 3 grains of Bullseye) and and see what happens. Of course I am not saying that this is safe or a good idea but there you go.

The 52 was specifically designed for the wadcutter. I would stick with that.
But, If you want to experiment, I once took a 52 frame assembly, fit a mod 39 slide assembly and had a 52 that shot 9mms. Mind you It took some fitting and a modified 39 magazine.
