Default What is an R3 model?

Recently became aware of a 3rd Gen variation I did not know about, the R3. Specifically a 4506R3. Have done some research but no info found. Term did not show any results on this forum. So, does anyone know what the R3 is, what is different about it?

Interesting info, but did not answer my question. As the link states, an R4 version is also mentioned, but not described. Hoping someone can explain all this.

I'm on duty tonight and my reference material is at the house. So, off the top of my sleep deprived head -

1988 - 4506 No dash. Revision 0
1989 - 4506 R1 or revision one. Different sights, step in frame removed?
1990-91 - R2 or revision 2. I can't recall the changes.
1992-1994 - 4506-1 R3, revision 3. Flash chromed forged parts, new frame...
1995-2006 4506-1 R4, revision 4. Already covered elsewhere in detail.

OP your R3 4506-1 will have an "R3" stamped in the base of the grip frame. It is the first, or earliest version of the 4506-1. A very nice gun. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

That is what I was hoping for. Thanks! If you find other significant info please post it. One thing I have read about is a change in the dimension(s) of the barrel hood?

They did change over time. I can't quote you specifics but here's what the changes look like.

My 4506-1 R3 has the large barrel hood. It also has the blue/black forged hammer and trigger. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI
