4506 no dash Guide Rod?
Hello All,
I'm sure this has been asked before, but forgive me if I don't have time for a detailed search. Does anyone know where I can obtain a guide rod for a 4506, either the aluminum factory part or an aftermarket steel one? I've just put some money down on a 4506 no dash and I'll get it out of hock in a couple of weeks. The guide rod seems to be the real wear item in the design and I'd like to have a spare on hand.
Thanks.

They always come and go on Ebay. Some, in new or great shape have sold for very good prices.
Check NOW, (maybe there might be one,)?

Yep, I was in an auction for one on ebay and got outbid at the last second. Onward and upward.

Numrich has one listed for a 4566, don't know if it fits. I bought a extra for my 5906 , same guide rod is listed for 39 ,59 and 40 series

My first thought is to always call CS at the mothership.

Guide rods for the 4506 are getting harder and harder to find. I get the impression that S&W is no longer making them, so that means used examples that may have a loose staked head on them are what you'll find on the net.
There was a forum member here who was making custom one-piece guide rods - peh_7. You could look him up and see if he's still making them. Prices were a bit higher ($65 IIRC) but they would be one-piece rods that would last a lifetime. Here's a thread with some feedback on a 4506-1 guide rod of his: 4506-1 guide rod

I believe that would be too short.

The mothership says they no longer support them.

One-piece fabricated guide rod
I posted this answer in another of your threads but here it is again:
.
I just received the (2) I ordered from Paul today for a 1006/4506 5" bbl.
Virtually identical, measurement wise, to a factory one-piece guide rod.
His has a longer spring but it's hole is drilled deeper so it's assembled length is the same. Well fabricated & he was good to deal with.
Contact: Paul Howell, [email protected]
aka: peh_7 here on the forum

After following this thread, I contacted Paul via e-mail and ordered two (2) solid stainless steel guide rods intending to put them in my parts kit to have as back-ups. I already had a couple of new rods in the parts kit.
They arrived yesterday and I had a opportunity to closely examine them this afternoon. I installed one in my 4506-1 and the other in my 4526 make sure they fit and work. Well, they were so lovely and fit so well, I decided to leave them in the pistols and put the two factory rods from the pistols in my parts kit. I don't need to post photos because they look just like the ones pictured in BLUEDOT37's earlier post. Thanks BLUEDOT37 and Paul. Happy!
