Price aside, looking for suggestions for my next 3rd gen. semi-auto.
I'm enjoying my recently purchased Mod. 915 a lot.
So what 3rd generation semi-auto should get next?
The only element the pistol has to have is a hammer, a real hammer, not one of those little bobbed jobs.
I mean, what's the point? Give it a hammer or don't give it a hammer.
For me, I want something I can put my thumb on and cock the hammer to fire that first round if I feel like it.

You offer no clues as to what use or role you hope to address with another model. Without knowing more, I'll take a stab at a suggestion;
Your next 3rd Gen needn't be a 3rd Gen. Instead, chase down a real beauty and gun of massive historical significance... which was made in such volume that you can easily find one in fantastic shape for low money!
The Model 39-2. Ever regular poster and enthusiast in this area of the sight needs at least one. I have two, and a no-dash 39 also.

Sevens, you make a lot of sense. Why limit myself?
I'll start reading about those 39s, the 39-2s and some others too.
As to my plans for that next semi-auto? Shoot it!
Thank you.

Or a 2nd Gen. 459, 659 or the elusive 559. I’m partial to my 645 it’s a beast but it sure tames recoil.

Wandering around a show with another forum member, he spotted a 39-2 in quite good shape. I bought it and love that gun. The trigger is nothing short of sensational. Now I'm searching for one in nickel.

5906TSW, find one that's decocker only, rather than a safety.

Anyone who does not already have a 4506 needs a 4506 and if one already possesses a 4506 surely one needs another 4506.
All hail the mighty 4506.
Cheers
Bill

mikem,
Pick up a Performance Center pistol. Any of the early ones like the 4006 or 5906. Top of the line.

I believe a 952 is considered a 3rd Gen. They are getting scarce, and there was a long barrel version. Briley bushed barrel, target trigger.

I have said before that the DA pull on my 39-2's is not as good as the DA pull on my 3rd gens BUT...the SA pull is fantastic on the 39-2's and the reset is amazing. The DA pull may be because 3 out of the 4 haven't been shot much. If a person doesn't shoot them in DA then the DA pull gets very little work in a TDA gun.
I like my 3rd gens with bobbed hammers and would encourage you to try a 3913 or similar if you haven't...you may be surprised. Less snagging for carry use. I also like my 3953 DAO.

I recommend the Model 4506. The best 45 ACP handgun under $1,000.

That is a very valid question when it comes to buying anything else. With the 3rd gems however.... hmmm... before you know it, one sells other guns to buy duplcates of what he already has! lol, and no, its no joke!

Sorry to hear you got stung by the 3rd gem bug friend. I fear you will soon realize its not "what should I get next?" rather "how can I stop buying them?"! lol!!
IMHO, I would get my second in a different caliber than the 915. My top choice would be a 4506. If not your top choice, I hear that stateside, CHP is selling their 4006tsw cheap. Or go for broke and chase after a 10xx. I remember back in the day, when they were offered new, with just a milder recoil spring they would feed and shoot 40 too.
Back to my original point, with over 60 (yes, sixty) models offered officially, without counting the special runs, and the pc guns... good luck choosing
Oh, I forgot to mention, just because it does or does not have a spurred hammer, it does not mean you can not swap it. Without the service of a gunsmith.

How many stainless 45s are there regardless price, that reliably feed empty cases from the magazine, can shoot 45 super just by swapping 2 springs, while carrying ultra safely?? IMHO the best and most underrated 45 ever.
