What would you pay for this 99% Mod. 915?
Hey,
I came across a Mod. 915 that I have to say is in 99% condition. And I say 99% because nothing's perfect.
It has the correct serial numbered box, with the S&W waxy pistol wrap paper but NO MANUAL.
The pistol appears to be unfired.
Now here's the bummer. It doesn't have the original mags or any mags for that matter. The owner says that's the way it came in to the shop.
What would you pay for this pistol?
Thanks.

Fellas,
I'm going back to take a second gander at it tomorrow.
I don't want it to get away from me, but neither do I want to pay too much.
What's it worth, boys?

With the correct box - it would be worth $400 to me. The magazines would be pretty easily replaceable if you live in a free state. Having no mags cuts it from $450 to 400 - but they have a good rep and I don't have one. Knowledgeable folks here have stated that the 915 is right up there with the 5904 in overall build. That said, I have a 5904 but have never handled a 915.

I was thinking the no mags would knock it down to $325 - $350.
I figure picking up a pair of the original orange follower SS mags would run $50 - $75.
Am I wrong about the mags? I've been hunting them and seen very few. I found a guy on ****list who has them. He wants $59 per plus shipping. I'd feel stupid paying that much for them.

Sounds right, $350 would be my upper limit for a gun with no mags.
Have you tried gunbroker? If I'm looking at the right mags, there are a few options below that. Can save a bit more if you don't mind mec-gars and just want something that works.

I bought a +/- 95% model 915 about a month ago. No box but one OEM mag for 325$ out the door.

No mags......... my comment to the seller..... "this gun is worthless"
"I'll give you $250..... in the hopes I can find a mag" ,,,,,,,
FYI a 915 even w/o a mag is a $350 gun.....................mags are easy to find......Mec-gar still makes and sells 59xx/915s use the same magazines.

I’m going to disagree with everyone and say the gun is a $300 gun with a mag. I’d offer $250-$275 tops for one w/o magazine.

Easily $400 to me if mint condition with correct box, but I am partial to Model 915's. Though the model 915 was brought out as an economy model for export military contracts, now, they do not make them like that anymore. One of the most underrated guns in the S&W lineup.

915's are funny animals.
S&W marketed them as an economy model, but they're much more similar to the 5904 than the 910. Nothing's "cheap", just no frills.
I happen to have one, and love it.
I'd use the "budget gun" label to leverage a lower price.
Interestingly enough, I recently bought The Gun Digest Book of 9mm Handguns, 2nd ed, for real cheap. Was published in 1993.
In that book, they go into the 3rd Gen S&W's, and the authors' consensus was that the 915 was S&W's best offering.

Well, here in Southern California, a pristine/99% 915 would go for, give or take, $500. Given the laws out here, you're not going to find one on consignment with the original (15rd) magazines. Frankly, it seems to me that the 915 has gained somewhat of a following out here, not a cult following like the 3913, but a following nonetheless. Usually when one comes up it's around 80-90%, the black alloy frame shows each and every little ding. Now, in free territory, I agree with some of the others, around $400. In general, I would say the California Premium on S&W 3rd Gen Autos runs between $75 and $200 dollars depending on the model. JMHO, FWIW.
Here are my two I got on consignment in 99% condition. One I bought in June of 2008 w/one Mec-Gar magazine for a little less than $400 and the other, also with one Mec-Gar magazine, in May of last year for $525. The seller had already turned down an offer of $500 on his $575 asking price, and I wanted it, so . . . there you have it. Since the one I bought in 2008 was the first I had seen in that condition and the other in 2017 was only the second, I don't think they're very common out here in that condition.

I might consider getting a 915. Can't seem to find any round trigger guard 5904's. Prefer the arched backstrap grips over the flat though.

I recently sold one among a batch of guns a non-shooter neighbor inherited.
It was loaded with (gasp) Black Talons.
Appeared unfired.
I was able to get $400 for it, with the full box of Black Talons included.

My vote is $300. Mags are going to set you back and I would hold out for factory mags, not knock offs. The 915 was an economy model and remains as such.

$300 sounds about right....($350-450 if it had 2 mags. )
Bass pro shops had some brand new unissued 3rd gen S&W's for sale recently for $600! They were NYPD guns...5946 I think?

Price on it was too high, $380 with no mags was too much.
Another one will come along.
