PROTOTYPE PC 3566
Now that I peaked your curiosity to check it out....I just have to share this one.
Unfinished PROTOTYPE Performance Center 3566 TSW.
Internals are all there and functional. The bead blasted portions of the slide and frame are done. The traditional polished areas are rough cut yet. No dovetails cut for the sights. Comp was put on by the factory.
According to Jinks it is “open on the books” which confirms the story I got on it from the seller. PCZ Serial prefix validates prototype PC....I’m happy all around, I just wish it had sights
....I guess every now and again a blind squirrel can find a nut.

All kinds of temptations...but I won’t. I think it’s worth more as is.

Although it's often said, "Buy the gun, not the story", I'd be very interested to hear the story the seller told you.

Nice find!
I think this would be a worthwhile addition (assuming it fits)...
On sale too!

Long story short....the seller worked with and was friends with a very well known member of the PC, whom will remain nameless. When the 356 TSW cartridge was developed for Team S&W in hopes it would make major power factor for IPSC they started building 5 guns for the team. In the midst of the builds it was identified they wouldn’t make major so production stopped. An inquiry was made about obtaining 1 of the 5.....it showed up at his door a few weeks later. The seller has had it stored away since then.
I agree with the adage of “buy the gun not the story”. In this case the story added up to me and I paid a fair price (in my eyes). A chunk of my collection is dedicated to limited run or one off pieces. This one fits right in. The others are documented, some day I will get a letter to document “open on the books”.

That's an interesting piece, but worth far more as-is than if modified or finished.

Ahem. The word is piqued, not peaked.
Dang, awesome pistol! Was it set up for an optic instead of traditional sights, or was it to early for that?

Learn a new word every day...THANKS!
My understanding is the intent was it for to have traditional sights...they stopped production on them and this is how far along this one was.

I went back and looked at the pictures again, and no, no optical sights for that one. I had in my mind the early 1911 optics which used a bracket that came out behind the grip panel, obviously not an option with the Smith.
If you shoot competition and don't have a gun set up for it, that's about the best foundation you could ask for.
If not, keep it as it came from the factory. The value can only go up.

So, are you going to shoot it or store it?

That is a good story!
Would that nameless individual possibly have the initials "P.L."?
