Is there a source for barrel weights? I do know there are two different types, the ones in the muzzle and the larger under slung weight that is adjustable. What is the going rate for these if one happens to find any for sale?

I don't know about prices for the internal weights. I'm recently told the external weights sell for $500 (as new in box). I'd supposed they would fetch considerably more than that, and am keeping mine for a spell.

I'm not aware of a source for reproductions, but from what I remember there was someone at one point reproducing them along with the Model 52 weight.
For original, $500 with original box sounds about right. I used to see them on eBay fairly frequently, but haven't checked in a long time. S&W also produced an aluminum upper to be used with the steel lower weights. These aren't commonly seen, at least by me. Here's a pic of one of my 41's with the aluminum upper installed. The aluminum uppers were powder coated just like the aluminum frame revolvers. The boxes that contained the weights changed over the years and the weights themselves changed a bit so there are variations. The later boxes were originally for handcuffs, and heavy paper was glued over the the lid end stenciling and over the inside lid instructions. A S&W employee used a marker and wrote the S&W product# for the weight set on the lid end.

That's what I was thinking, rare now and expensive. There is a company making weights for the Model 52 series, I have one of those as well. I will check and see if they have the Model 41 version.

ebay has them listed from time to time (although not any as of 10 min. ago) . Just curious as to WHY you want to make a relatively heavy .22 even heavier?? No recoil to speak of....... Also easy enough to make if you are handy.

I like to have the accessories when I can find them. I also have a High Standard Supermatic with the 7 1/4" barrel, about the same weight as the Model 41. I have barrel weights for it. I find I can shoot a bit more accurately with a 3 oz weight on the barrel. Don't really know about the Model 41 yet, it is still in the registration process.

I am sure you will find the M41 to be a extremely accurate shooting target gun. They are one of the best target guns ever made by any manufacturer. The price is a wee bit high on this one so I would make an offer up to $200.00 less.
