Does S&W still offers factory support for 3914/3913 pistols ? What is current market $$$ for used 3914/3913 pistols ?

There is little or no support. I cruise Ebay and a few other places for parts.Check Gunbroker for values. I checked in the last 10 days and $500 for one in good shape. They are somewhat cult guns. I love mine I bought it 5 years ago for about $500. I already had 5 third generation 9mms, including a 6906. I knew everyone raved about the carry ability of the 3913. I did not understand until I bought one. It is hard to believe what a difference a few tenths of an inch makes and the shape/size of the grip.

Thanks. I have one . I was thinking about carrying it again one day. I think I just list it for sale here at some point and keep using my more modern guns. I used to carry it years ago , but carry a Glock 43 now.

I believe you'll find an interested audience here if the value is reasonable. I own 4 but there's still plenty of room in the safe.

They are cult guns...... introduced before their time!!!! In 1990 everyone wanted a hi-cap 9mm...... 15 rounds +. I've carried a 39xx gun every day since 1991.

Had another thread going about..... folks carrying and raving about the Glock 43 .... a single stack 9mm. Carrying with a +2 adapter to get a full grip...... hey IMHO they have nothing over the 3913/14/NL guns. FWIW I prefer a DA/SA gun to a striker fired gun as a civilian who conceal carries......I like the long double action first shot for safety and decision making.

As to parts most are the same as the double stack 69xx guns..... which were common Police guns in the 90s and beyond.

Grab 2 or 3 extra recoil springs and maybe a Wolf spring pack ...... and you should be GTG for decades!!!!!!!

lets just say I've invested about $ 250-300 every other year since 1990 in getting another 39xx or 69xx gun.... Last year I got a anib 6906 and a similar 6904 for an average price of $292.50 both with 2 mags..... so my backups to my backups are good to go also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you "like" the 3913 keep it........ use it ....... carry it.......... if it breaks; then fix it or replace it........you can always go to a Glock down the road............... if you have to.

I haven't had to test factory support for my 3rd Gens very often, but I wouldn't count on it being much these days.

Market value-wise, all of my standard Model 3913's were bought for between $375 and $425 (usually plus tax). There is a Model 3914 for sale near me right now at $399+tax... very typical for my area, but I can't speak to it's condition, box/no box or # of mags. Just haven't hit that dealer lately.

I just paid $400.00 for a 3913 LS. Two magazines, no box or papers. I hope to get it to the range today.

I've ordered an IWB holster for it. I don't know if I'll carry it much or not, I currently carry a Ruger LC9s, but I want to be able to when I want to.

I found a 3913TSW last week. Had to drive a couple hours each way and paid much more for it. The good news was it came with 5 magazines. The other good news is I suggested meeting at a LGS I'd never visited before. I got there early and ended up buying a 909 and 910 before the fellow showed up.

I traded a guy about 5 yrs back a lightly used LC9 hammer fired for a Cali DOC 3913 w/ 2 mags made 4/20/2000. I had to drive 200 miles but now looking back it was and is still a smoking deal.

I have been carrying and shooting 39XX series guns since the mid 90s. Thousands of rounds through at least 7 seperate examples of 3913, 3914 and CS9.

And I have never broken anything. Not one single part. And I have never experienced a stoppage with a 39XX series gun. Not once. Ever. But I also keep mine cleaned and lubed and I change recoil springs every 3000 rounds.

So, carry what you will and buy what you want. But in 9mm, make mine a 39 series. Nothing else, made by anyone, comes close to the concealability, reliability and accuracy of these fine 9s. And they look good doing all that. Regards 18DAI

Maybe to people who partake in this forum, but there are plenty of owners who consider it a 20+ year old metal gun that they would gladly trade in to a gun store towards a Glock 43, or Sig 365, & accept $200 trade in value. These are the sellers I look for. Not those who read here, who are more familiar with the true value. GARY

Sellers who in many cases are selling one sock drawer gun ...... to buy another.........I've look out for and taken advantage of the opportunities they present...........................

as stated in my post above..... in the winter of 2017 I was able to buy an all but new 6906 and a similar 6904 .... at an average cost of $292.50.

I had no need for either but at the OTD prices offered by the LGS..... who felt they would sit for a long time unless I bought them..... who could leave them behind!

Wish more folks would trade in their old, metal Smith 19s, 66, 586 and 686s revolvers for the same low $$$$s offered at most LGS!!!!

Edit:

New means new .... New can mean different .....New might mean improved...... but .. New doesn't always mean better !!!!!!

One word: Pennsylvania!

Good thing you never had to live in the real world Bam... or even worse, Behind Enemy Lines in a loony moonbat state.

You couldn't handle paying actual market prices for your guns.

Well, you are down in Florida so that's probably pretty darn good for used handgun prices as well... ... but is it as good as we've heard and read so many times in these pages about Pennsylvania?

I'd find that hard to believe!

I carry a S&W 6946, which is a double stack, 12 round magazine, double action only action. I like it a lot, carried it for years. My biggest fear with carrying it is that should I be involved in a self-defense shooting, it would likely be confiscated and held in an evidence locker until the case was cleared. That could mean months of it sitting, dirty, and perhaps not in the best of climate controlled areas. That is really the biggest reason I sometimes consider buying a plastic... errrr... "polymer" pistol.

EXACTLY my thoughts. My nice guns that were hard to find sit in the safe, & my carry gun [Walther P99c] can easily be replaced for $339 should this happen. So while I would love to carry my 3913, I don't GARY

The "evidence locker" as a reason not to carry a 3rd gen gun has come up a few times here over the last few weeks. Here is my take on that argument.

If I save my life with my carry gun in a self defense shooting, the gun has paid for itself and its status is the least of my concerns.

Especially if the guy who came in 2nd place was "just turning his life around and out looking for a job as a doctor so he could help people." You follow me?

I want my carry gun to be reliable and accurate and something I can get two fast accurate hits with. It may not be a Performance Center Shorty 45 - BUT - if that is the only option I have in the safe THEN IT WILL BE.

But if I have a 457 or a CS45 (and I do) then I will carry one of them instead because they do what I need done and are easily replaced (and are better choices than anything currently being manufactured today, for me.)

And when all the dust clears, I'll have my attorney file a motion to have it returned to me from the property room. If I get it back, fine. If I dont, it served its purpose and was a wise investment.

Unless you are kicking doors or storming beaches, you are far more likely to get hit by lightning than have to use your gun in an unfortunate incident. So dont get all wrapped around the axle worrying what will become of your carry gun.

Worry more about practicing with whatever you choose to carry so that you are still here should you become a participant in an unfortunate incident. My 0.02 Regards 18DAI

Those DOC guns were a great bargain. I had one for a few years, but sold it a few months ago. Which might have been silly even though I have several other 3rd Gen compact 9mm guns.

People live where they live for various reasons.

Of course, I've never seen a forum thread on ANY forum called "Massachusetts Man..."

But if I have a 457 or a CS45 (and I do) then I will carry one of them instead because they do what I need done and are easily replaced.

Follow you loud and clear. While I pray it never happens, if you need to engage that "doctor to be" and your weapon gets impounded, come over to my place and pick whatever you need. Next time I see you, I'll give you the address and combination to the safe.

18DAI's take is sage advice. I have similar advice that is off in a related but angled tangent--

It's the constant question/worry about factory support and/or parts for 3rd Gen pistols. Folks, these guns are difficult to wear out. And there are a zillion parts on the secondary market. An entire replacement 3rd Gen of the same model isn't expensive. And as each day passes, there are LESS qualified guys in Springfield, Mass that have half a clue how to best work on a 3rd Gen anyway.

What kind of factory support is there for 3rd Gens at S&W today? Truth is, it depends on who answers the phone and their mood.

I suggest either buying a real BEATER 3rd Gen and start practicing on how to detail strip it, learn how it works and become your own "mothership." Most likely, you won't find many problems, but learning how to care for your own 3rd Gen can help alleviate any concerns about how much help S&W can be if you break something.

Sold my 6906 a few months back, currently have my 6946 up on a 'site'. Since I picked up a 3913NL and 3953 recently, the double stackers can go. I like them but like the single stack grip better. If I want to shoot double stackers,I've got 59 and 92FS for that. My future purchase endeavors with be the small single stackers of 9 and 40.

I bought another compact barrel so I wouldn't wear off the laser engraving. After finding some straight back grips she joined the carry rotation.
