S & W 1066 10mm
I was told that since the 1066 was only made for a couple of years, that it's value is reduced. I would have thought the opposite. I was offered 300 for a 1066 in the original box w/cleaning kit and two magazines….seems a little low..but I've been out of the loop for awhile…was hoping to get 500

Yeah. That's low. I paid around $900 for my 1076--in nice shape but not quite mint. I would think a '66 would be in that ballpark, depending on condition. Maybe a little less... bc you don't have decocker/FBI-gun cache (mine's not an actual FBI gun--the model just has that association).

This is a joke, right?
Check the completed auctions on that certain large firearms auction website. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Someone is trying to steal that gun from you!

Where did you come across that potential buyer? I hope it's some random jerk and not a "friend" or family member.
For the record, the entire six model line of 10mm S&W pistols was only in production from mid-1990 to some point in 1993. We do have production numbers of each model courtesy of Mr. Roy Jinks.
If your potential buyer KNEW production numbers and KNEW that your model was comparatively scarce, he's a straight up SHYSTER by offering $300 for it.
I hope he rots. Don't sell that gun or any gun to him at any price unless it is a Jimenez.

Model and units produced
-1006 26,979
-1026 3,135
-1046 151
-1066 5,067 1990-1992
-1076 13,805
-1086 1,660
1066,3rd most abundant OR 4th rarest.
Original box, cleaning kit,2 magazines drives the value up compared to a 10XX w 1 mag and nothing else.

$500 is too low. Boxed complete well north of 1k.

The 1066 residing here was a pawn shop rescue. In very good shape but no box or spare mags. Wouldn't even consider anything south of $1k for it. $300? Rude.

Sounds like a little high for a pawn shop offer. Enthusiasts need to remember that not everyone values guns in the same manner and consider them as tools that wear out or get replaced by newer models.

The market is still the market regardless of our passion or your criticism of our passion. The MARKET says that pistol with original box is commonly traded north of $900, so $300 is more than an insult. $300 offer along with a tactic of "well they didn't make many so nobody really wants those" appears to be obvious deception en route to a screw job.
Opinions may vary, opinions SHOULD vary but the market isn't hidden. $300 for a nice 1066 with original box?

You would be well advised to steer clear of that person in the future. They are either really out of touch with reality. Or they are somebody looking to get over on you in a big way. Either way, that is not the kind of company that a smart man keeps.

Sounds like you might be dealing with a gun shop or pawn shop. Around here, they usually offer the seller 1/3 to not more than 1/2 of what they know they will get for it.

If you want good, honest money for it, sell it here on the forum. The 1066 is a great pistol. $300 is way to low for a S&W 10mm semi-auto. Of course you could just enjoy it and keep it too.
