Fullsize duty gun as CCW
This 3rd gen as duty gun thread...
Third gen as a duty gun
Got me to wonderin'... Who all carries a fullsize 3rd gen duty gun as their regular CCW?
Well I'll be raising my hand first
The smallest piece I carry often is my 1014 (34oz with a full load )However, lately the 4506 is getting a bunch of holster time. In fact I've got a horsehide #2 on order with Kramer right now with intent to pack the 4506 more frequently. And the 1006 is also in the mix at times So Who else Hmmm?
Cheers
Bill

I often find myself carrying either a 5906 or 915 (whichever is my house gun at the time) out of the house at night. With even a light sweatshirt/jacket they conceal well for a nightly walk.
I also have plans to start getting a 4506 (R4) into the rotation in a modified DeSantis thumbreak scabbard, just getting it set up for 45 Super first.

In the winter time, when I can cover them with a jacket, my 4506-1 and 4566s get the nod. Carried in Aker pancake holsters.
Once in awhile, I do carry the 4506-1 in a Milt Sparks IWB. Usually on my part-time job at the LGS. I had a front night sight installed on it and it already had one of the recent wide aperature blacked out Novak rears on it. Makes for a fast sight picture. But it is a lot of gun to carry all day.
Does a 4516 count as a full size? Regards 18DAI

When I started w/the DC Police Dept., 1968, we were required to be armed off duty and to carry our service weapon, which I learned AFTER purchasing my Colt Cobra new for $85. My 4” Colt was heavy & bulky but I did not want to be in violation of the rules while on probation. My solution: Carry the big Colt in DC off duty (court, etc) and my Cobra when off duty in VA. I still have that Cobra and am amazed at its value today, although I’ll never sell it.

I'm quasi wimpy, so I carry alloy framed guns. 457 for .45 and 3913TSW (pre rail) in 9mm.
I do like shooting my 5906, though. It's certainly accurate enough for my needs. Just a tad too heavy to carry, although I did back in the days when I had a part time police job.

I carried a 1911 both on and off duty. My only 3rd gens were issued and reserves were not allowed to carry the issued pistols off duty.

I carried a both a 1911, and a 4 inch K frame concealed while I was still a police officer. I don't believe anybody was aware that I was armed.

Absolutely! I used to carry a full-size GI M1911A1 all the damn time. Lately I've been open carrying my Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman and I am in the process of putting a 4 inch barrel on it so I can carry it in a concealable holster.

My general concealed carry in the "Burbs of the Burgh" is a 3913 or a PC Shorty9....... but I often carry either a 915 or a Beretta 92 Compact (13+1) which IMHO is really a full size duty gun with a 4.3" barrel and slide.
You can call them "Compacts" but again IMHO Sig 228s and 229s are full size duty guns.
I'd even consider my FrankenSmith 6915 ( 6906 frame w/ a 915 upper) a full size gun

I carried my old 4003 as my first ccw gun when I first got my permit. I carried it in a Theis IWB holster and it concealed pretty well. I wish I wouldn’t have sold the gun.
