I have pre-39 smith Wesson 9mm it was made late 1954 141x serial its 99 percent its just stunning I cant find any info most is on the 39 all I was told is that the pistol was manufactured late 1954 its in the 4 hundred rang off the assembly line alloy frame can someone point me in the direction off a web site also the lettering on the pistol is in a white ish gold color very rustic looking color been in the family for decades I just got it passed down to me thanks

The lettering (white ish gold") you describe may be nothing more than personal customization. Photos would help. There was a time when people would add gold coloring to the stamping on guns. This can be cleaned with acetone, tooth brush, and elbow grease. The acetone will not hurt the blue finish.

I doubt it was made as early as 1954, more likely the following year. I have #1173 and am mailing out my request for a factory letter on it next week, I suggest you do the same.

I found out mine (#1173) shipped in September 1955, and given the slow initial production it's probable #141x made it out the door in 1956. But, only a letter will tell you for sure
