Default S&W Performance Center in .38 Super

Was lucky enough to find this nice Doug Koenig with shipping box, case, and all accessories from a great gentleman. Now if the weather cooperates, I might get to take it to the range today.

You just made me sick . I would give my left arm for a Smith chambered in .38 Super . I wanted one for years after reading about how the cops and FBI used them back long ago. I finally went into my local store thinking I wanted a Colt . My guy talked me out of it , and steered me to a Tanfoglio Witness Stock III . People look at you funny when you say you shoot .38 Super , but I really enjoy . Let us know how it shoots , I know I will be looking forward to hear about it .

I have the identical gun to the OP's. I bought it from a Forum member several years ago. I probably paid too much for it but I wanted to be fair and used closed GunBroker auctions plus some value appreciation that may have taken place since those auctions closed as a guide. It came in its factory PC aluminum case with a pair of S&W accessory rosewood grips panels along with the DK grips. I was happy so that's all that really matters.

By the way, your gun will probably outshoot your abilities.

Mr. Marine...go find yourself a 1911 in .38 Super and find out what you've been missing....

Although the latest Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson doesn't include a lot of data on this model, I've learned by seeing several of them that there were a few variations. For instance, some don't have the flat trigger and some have a fiber optic front sight, which mine did but I changed it out for the Patridge like the OP's gun. And some have an S&W rear sight while others have a Wilson Combat sight like mine has.

I understand there were two batches of these guns. The first was made in 1989 and the second was later but I don't know the year. Mine is a PC1911-2 if that dates it.

38 Super is a lot of fun and like 10mm, even better if you reload. I'm not lucky enough to own a Smith 38 Super, mine is a Taurus PT1911 but it runs like a Timex watch and more accurate than I am. Enjoy those PC1911's!

I did a trade deal and part of the deal I got a light weight Colt Commander in .38 Super. I really had no interest in it and I figured I'd rapidly swap it off. On a whim, I bought a box of ammo and took it to the range. I was surprised how accurate it was and how comfortable it was to shoot. I came back with a new appreciation for the .38 Super round. I did use the .38 Super LWT Cmdr as my carry gun for a while but I decided to upgrade it. I went with the EAA Tanfoglio Witness Steel Full Size and I think the 17 round capacity is great. I call my .38 Super gun a 9mm Magnum!

I have one of these fine weapons. I think it may be time to part with it. What do you guys know about today's market?

You may have found out already, but the white lettering on the DK grips will wear off pretty easily when handled. I keep mine on for show but swap them out for more durable grips when I shoot it. Anyone who hasn't fired a .38 Super is in for a revelation when they finally do so.

OP, congratulations. I inherited my Dad's carry pistol: Series 70 Colt Combat Commander in .38 Super.

Find out if that barrel headspaces on the mouth or rim. Mouth = better accuracy.

Save your brass and send it to me!

Yours is a twin to mine - right down to the glow worm front sight being replaced with a Patridge. I also have nice wood grips on mine. Suckers will really shoot!
