Default 3rd gen autos S&W didn't make, but you wish they had...

What non-manufactured 3rd gen configuration would you want to buy?

For me, it would be a 3913/14 platform with the barrel length of the CS9, but not the blockiness of the CS9 slide. The 391X grip and the finger rest 8 rd mag fit my hand perfectly, unlike the CS9 grip and 7 round mag, with or without the rest. A spur hammer or full stroke DAO (like the NYPD guns) would be options.

Frame mounted 39xx compact. Which would likely be a 3933/34/36 depending on what the frame was made from.

Let's see, Hmmm.

1013 & 1014 pocket rockets would top my list.

In general I have like to see them stay with the first or second trigger guard. I have pretty big mitts and with the elongated trigger guard it's much quicker for me to transition my shootin' finger to the trigger from parked on the side of the frame. I get that many folks don't care for the squared first trigger so maybe we could settle for the second, seen on many of the 10xx pistols.

Expand the TSW line with... 4596TSW, 4516TSW, 1066TSW, 1013TSW, 4593TSW, and perhaps a 1063TSW. Just for the engineering improvements such as the beefed up full length frame rails, improved slide to frame fit, loaded chamer port etc. I want them all decock only with spurless hammers and no assinine accessory rail. Pure serious business no BS guns.

I can do without the laser billboard too. Out of curiosity, I wonder if splattering "TACTICAL" in huge block letters on the flats actually did anything for sales.

Cheers
Bill

My top 3 on the wish list would be...

1) 4514TSW pre rail 6 round alloy frame melonite finish
2) Shorty 10 Performance Center single stack 10mm w/3.5 inch barrel and matte/polished flats 2 tone finish
3) Shorty 9 Performance Center single stack 9mm with the same barrel length and finish as the Shorty 10 above.

4506 with an integral rail, Melonited.

Add on the loaded chamber indicator hole, and we're all set.

Oh wait...............optional threaded barrel.

Honestly, the best shooting semi-auto I have is a Glock G40 10mm long slide. Too bad a 1006 long slide never happened.

Not sure about the sales but almost everybody knows TACTICAL guns shoot better than NON.

I know there is a Performance Center 10mm prototype floating around with the 2 tone finish but I don't believe it will ever be for sale. IIRC its a 5 inch gun, so my wish for a 3.5 inch gun is valid for this thread.

I wish more of the melonited finish guns would have been out. Jerry Miculek has a video on a PC5906 that's in a melonite finish that's a beautiful looking gun.

6915.......6906 lower with a 4" 915 upper.

Or better yet a PC SD-9 (all stainless steel with a 4 1/4 inch barrel and slide)...... with an alloy frame!

I'd love to see that PC10... Make me wonder how similar it is to my PC4506. A long lost twin perhaps?

Cheers

Although I've never had one of the hammer drop SiGs, I once had a Browning BDA, which was basically a commercial P6, IIR, imported by Browning. I sort of liked the decocker under the thumb, even if it's blatantly non-ambidextrous. How about a 6906 so-equipped. What would that be? A 6966?

A 4503......well.... they actually made about 3 or 4 of them. Ive never seen a picture let alone the gun.

A 3916, a 4513 CCO and a scandium CS9 with Delrin grips. All of them rail free and all of them Melonited, of course. Regards 18DAI

I think a Melonite finish is required on modern stainless guns. Or should be.

I'd be very happy with a Melonite version of the pre rail 3913TSW. I'd trade the one round less capacity for a bit more ease in concealment. Or a 3953 version, for that matter.

Now, if I had to carry a firearm for duty use, it would be a 69xx with frame mounted decock, night sights, and a dehorned slide and controls. Melonite, of course.

What S&W SHOULD have made in 3rd gen were two pistols...
a double stack .45acp in compact, mid, full, & LONGSLIDE sizes...
and a double stack 10mm, in compact, mid, full, and LONGSLIDE sizes...
If they had done that, they would have pre-empted Glock completely.

Same thing they OUGHT to be doing now with the M&P 2.0
But unfortunately, S&W Management are still stuck in their 70's mindsets.
Yeah, they're making plastic fantastic, but they're still WAY behind Glock...as usual.
And they don't have the guts to make a 10mm. Period.

It's not that I love Glock, it's just that they've managed to do what S&W refuses to.
The G40 & 41 MOS longslides are flat out superior to anything S&W has EVER had on the market.
Sad but true.

6904 but with a steel frame. Melonite finish or similar on both slide and frame. Spur hammer. Novak sights. Tritium front. Black rear. Checkered front strap. Standard plastic grips. Match barrel. Top of slide serrated. Front cocking serrations. Round trigger guard. Decocker only, slide mounted.

That'd be my ideal 6904.

And a 3913 in the same configuration.

How about one of these:

A 5906 with 5" slide, mag well, and extended mag release. I built this one from a regular 5906, adding a surplus 5" slide I purchased on this forum years ago and a mag well & extended mag release I ordered from S&W. I also added night sights.

I own 5 Glocks because they are very reliable tools. 3 of them are what you have stated in your comment that S&W should have made. A G29SF, 30SF, and the 40. (I'm considering buying the long slide .45). They're not pretty like S&W revolvers are, but they work so well that the 29 (with G20/40 mag.) is my truck gun.
The stubborn fools at S&W won't listen, but thankfully other gun makers will.

The 5904TSW with integral rail. Although I think I'd like a 5924TSW with frame mounted decocker a little better.
Black finish, Novak style 3 dot night sights. It would compete directly with the SIG P226R.

Oh yeah and price them around $600. That would be good, thanks.

3916 & 3915 pretty much sums up what I would have liked to see them make. An integrated rail 3916TSW as well. Would have also liked a 3.5" single stack 4016/4015, though I'm less interested in 40SW these days.

How about an actual 6906?

Instead of a 6903, which--for some reason--they call a 6906...

Seriously though, the 69XX series are among my favorite guns. Would love to have one with a steel frame. Also in a TSW guise. WITH NO FRIGGIN RAIL.

Okay, okay... I could live with the rail.

Check out the Performance Center's SD-9...... an all stainless 6906 with a 4 1/4inch barrel and slide.....only 179 made in 94/95.

A great gun...... used it quit a bit at the range until I found out how scarce they were................. still a 95% gun. Built a gun like Squidsix's above,,,, out of a 6904 frame and 915 slide and barrel

Wow. Never heard of that one.

This was the only pic I could find: Smith & Wesson S&W Model Sd-9 P Performance Center 9mm Like 6906 5906 For Sale at GunAuction.com - 6848857

Pretty sweet. But honestly, I'd rather have seen the 3.5inch barrel. Not that I could afford one, either way.

That's really cool.

Is that a slide from a PC model? Didn't the "Super 9" have a 5 incher?

Pretty gun. The price at the auction link wasn't horrible considering the condition and rarity.

Not to scold or be judgemental, if I owned one of those, I'd bring it to range fairly often.

That aside, I like the alloy frames for concealed carry guns. Scandium would be nice too, but the price would go through the roof.

As it is, I'll just keep hunting down the variations I like and shoot them. Of course from time to time, I'll think of some modifications I'd like BMCM to make.

It got a lot of use in the 90s when I was shooting USPSA and IDPA... 60+year old eyes got me out of those games...... and you're right; I to prefer to carry my alloy frame PC Shorty-9 or a 3913.

I feel like the prices on that particular site (gunauction.com) are always waaaay lower than reality would suggest. If one of those popped up on GB... I bet you'd be looking at 2 grand.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd never heard of it until today. Prices might go up as more people find out about it.

Not a PC slide. Here is a link to a thread discussing the 5" non-PC slides (post #17):

Believe it or not, that actually exists. The model is 6926. They're very rare. CDI Sales had a few listed about two years ago, and I haven't seen any others before or since.

I want a 5924/26 in integral rail TSW form. I'd also like to see a 3926 in rail-less and railed form, along with more 3906s.

If I could make my 6915 decocker-only like my Beretta 92G and my 4566 I would. You should definitely do that.
Out of curiosity, where did you score a decock only safety assembly?

A friend use to manage a gun shop that went out of business ( 10 years after he left and the owner's son took over running the place into the ground).

When they were clearing out the shop he bought a bunch of stuff..... and sold me a small bag of 3rd gen Smith Parts.....the "5900 Series Decocking Lever", three hammers/struts and a trigger ..

I've got a Wilson Combat Beretta's G Centurion and a couple more Centurions with the new G Kits installed..... love the G configuration.

While a decocker 6915 would be nice ..... not sure I wouldn't get more use out of a decocker 6904.

I've also got a PC DPA 5906 which has a decocker........

It doesn't count because they made them but the only one I've seen is on Jerry Miculek's YouTube channel.

I've been carrying and shooting my early production, black CS9 a lot lately. When I put it on this AM I thought of this thread.

Working part time in the LGS, I get to see what sells and what the general public is looking for. And small 9mms (single stacks until the recent advent of the Sig 365) are what they want.

The Ruger EC9 and Walther PPS M2 being our best sellers. We cant keep them in stock. Of course over the last 2 months those have been eclipsed by folks wanting a P365.

But I have also seen an increasing number of customers looking for a small metal framed hammer fired 9mm. We sell them the Sig 938.

But if we had some brand new, scandium framed, Melonite coated CS9s, with Delrin grips, we could sell every one they make. Its a shame that such a pistol doesnt exist.

Oh well, I got my CS9 and it is not going anywhere. In fact it is quickly becoming my favorite carry gun. Regards 18DAI

I sold my CS9 a couple of years ago when I got my pre rail 3913TSW. I didn't think it filled a need, but now I'm starting to think I was wrong.

I use a Bersa Thunder 380CC for my when I need to keep it in a pocket gun. It's okay, but it's not a S&W.

If I could get my hands on a CS9, I'd send the safety/docker out to BMCM for a shave and dehorn. I'd probably keep the rubber grips. I'd definitely get a Mika pocket holster.

Other than that, I think it would be fine as a pocket 9mm.

Gary with a 3913TSW 7-round mag and TercGen grips, my CS9 fits in the pocket of my 511 pants. I use a DeSantis Nemesis holster on the rare occasions I pocket carry the CS9.

After years of lusting after an early rail free 3913TSW, I finally got to shoot one this week. Curtesy of my friend Jeppo (Thanks again Jeppo! )

While the 3913TSW is a very fine gun, it doesn't suit my 9mm needs as well as the CS9. Which I found to be shorter and easier to conceal than the 3913TSW. Suffice it to say, Im no longer looking for the 3913TSW. My 0.02 Regards 18DAI

So...shooting my 3913TSW saved you a bunch of money...while, letting me shoot your CS9 cost me a bundle!

You're welcome!

This not a 3rd Gen. but a 2nd Gen. Want. How about the 645 with a double staggered magazine so it would have mag. capacity in the 14-16 round area. To me, the totally perfect handgun!

The 5905 was the all carbon steel version. I don't know that carbon steel is suitable for the Melonite process. I think that a 5906 would be a better candidate, being all stainless.

Thinking about it, a 5903 (stainless slide, alloy frame) would be better. Anodize the frame black and Melonite the slide. A much lighter package overall.
