Default Values of 952-2

Looking at a 952-2 but having very little luck finding any out there right now. Nothing on GB, GA, AA.

Has anyone bought one recently and will share the pricing and condition?

I can tell you that I've seen 952s sell well in excess of $2000 in the US depending on condition, barrel length, stainless or otherwise. I'd love to acquire one but at those prices, it's out of my league.

I've only seen pictures of the 952-2. Nothing but pictures.

I sold a used, but beautiful 952-2 for $2500 about 2 years ago. It had a 5" barrel. If it had a six inch barrel, I believed I could have gotten over $5,000 for to. Great handling, smooth as silk. But it had standard bullseye sights which, as I recall, would have been quite a job even for a gunsmith, to swap out.
Of course, like every gun I've traded or sold, I wish I'd kept it.

We all know that feeling as we all have done it at one time or another. Still kicking myself over a Berretta FS92 that I sold a few years ago now. It had all the nice trick stuff on it and a trigger feel like No-other gun I have ever fired. It was totally a sweet trigger and had the nicest handfeel as well. Oh well, live and learn. Sometimes the hard way.

I don't know if I would put the 952 on the same plane as the 52 when it comes to accuracy, but the trigger on mine is every bit as nice as my model 52's trigger, and the gun is nowhere near as finicky about ammo.

I have a 210 but haven't had an opportunity to shoot it much. I can state though that the Sig's trigger, while nice, isn't comparable to the 952.

One complaint I have about the Sig (and the fan boys on the Sig forum poo-poo'd me about it) is the gun is large enough for at least a 9 round mag, or even a 10, though the 10 might require extending. Either would give you 10 rounds for shooting, especially competition, but when I called Sig CS, I got the telephone equivalent of "deer in the headlights" response.

Back to 952, if I was told I could keep only one, the 952 or the 210, I'd wave bye-bye to the 210. I do understand though, the 210 is cheaper and available.

BTW, my Sig:

The Sig p210 is not very available right now. While you could find them on GB a few weeks back, don't think there is even one new one on there now, at least as late as Saturday.

I have the itch, and plan to call Sig later this week and ask when they plan to produce a new batch. If not soon, a CZ Shadow II Target might take it's place, at least for the time being!

Sig is in the midst of a large recall, plus their production has ramped up for the recently won government contract as well as trying to get the 365's out the door. So there may not be a lot of 210's for a while, but Sig has also promised a couple of versions of this gun including one for carry.

But this is a S&W board, so let's get back to 952's.

When I bought mine, I really would have liked to have got the longer version, but at $2000 more, I just couldn't justify the purchase.

Well, I would love to get my hands on a 952, but aside from being pretty scarce as the OP observed, seems like they start at around $2500, which is a bit of a stretch, at least for me, when there are other alternatives around. May just have to shoot my 52-2 (which I love), but I am looking for something in 9mm.

Once upon a time, someone (BarSto?) was doing conversion barrels for the 52 in 9mm. If only they would make another run!

Back when the 952 was in production, they only got so-so reviews because almost everyone compared them to the 52, which most people loved (maybe the sentimental favorite because they were out of production). Anyway, now that both guns are out of production it seems as if most shooters compare the 952 very favorably to the 52. I should have bought one back then! Goes to show you that you cannot second guess yourself on something like this.

However, now that the Sig P210 is an option (if Sig would only make some more), for a $1000 lower price, I think I would take a new Sig over a used 952. The CZ is my alternate if I find it is unlikely that Sig is to produce some more in the near future. YMMV - Good luck to the OP!

I've never heard of this, can you point to any conversation on this subject? I know that the 8-round 39/39-2 magazines will fit and lock in to place in a 52 and they will even trip the magazine disconnect present in the 52 but they are definitely a very sloppy fit inside the magazine well of the pistol.

I have no doubt that the all-steel Model 52 can easily handle a cartridge of far higher pressure than the sedate .38 Wadcutter, but I have my doubts that a 9mm barrel could simply be just dropped in without also having a matched barrel bushing shipped with the accessory barrel.

I posted on this thread the other day but said something I shouldn't have (sorry about that boss) but part of what I said should be okay with the mods. The 952s are not cheap but if there was a gun I wanted and planned to shoot and enjoy for the next 10 to 20 years I would certainly go after it hard. You may spend a couple of hundred more than you wanted to but lets face it, if you collect guns or go shooting a lot you probably aren't poor. They aren't going to get any cheaper (yes the gun sales market is a little soft right now) so couldn't you find a couple extra bucks? Maybe just shorten your range trips for the next few months. I say jump thru whatever hoops you have to. The 952s are great and you won't regret it. I wish I could say that about every gun I've bought but sadly I can't.

Briefly discussed here: I saw a verey nice 52-2 for sale.....

If someone could convince Bar-Sto to make a run of these barrels, I'd be one of the first in line. Best if they could be made a couple thousandths larger than the typical Model 52 bushing so they could be hand fit to the bushing.
