Default CS 40 Magazines

I have an older Coonan 357 so paying alot for a magazine isn't foreign to me. Still don't like having to do it though. I just bought a CS 40 and am wondering if there's any way to work around finding expensive magazines for the little gun. I have a CS 45 and have heard those magazines may work but I'd rather not rely on that. Assembling 40 magazines from 10mm Smith magazines seems do-able since the parts are available from Numrich. A spacer, 40 cal followers would be needed and some way to shorten and attach a floorplate.

I presume I'm not the only one to have found a way to accomplish this?

Watch Ebay and Gunbroker DAILY. The good deals go quicker than Hillarys emails.

In the past few months I have bought 3 new in the package CS40 mags for no more than $38 shipped. One on Ebay I made an offer of $25 and was accepted.

Thanks. Am watching, my "best buy" thus far was $60.00. This makes 3 mags, which a guess is OK. I'd still like to know if 10mm mags can be tweaked. Seems like a "so close" thing to be able to do.

CS40 and 10mm mags have different dimensions.

CS40 mags have the same dimensions as .45 mags and no others.

Since I've abandoned my 'CS40 to 10mm' project(for now),I've got 3 CS40 mags of which one I'm willing to sell for $40 SHIPPED. I'll keep two of them for if that project ever gets resurrected.

Funny story (well, to me anyway): There is a cop shop kind of gun store not far from me with a lot of used 3rd Gen magazines in stock. Last price he told me on CS40 magazines was just $30 each (plus tax I assume). Only problem is that he won't sell any to me. For him to sell them to you, you must be a cop and you must be local. No, it's not a Massachusetts law or anything like that. He just feels that these older S&W magazines are customer relations GOLD to his local cop customers and so he really doesn't want to sell any of them unless it means the likelihood of more cop business and profit for him for doing so.

So if you are a MA cop and want some CS40 magazines cheap, let me know and I'll tell you where to find them!

Probably should point out to him that they've not been in issue piece for quite some time, and are unlikely to return to duty again Anyone carrying one is likely Over 50, like you, and unlikely to chase any more suspects, like you

I have been tempted to go back there again and take a different approach. Most shops want to sell old & used magazines just to get rid of them and make a few bucks, especially when they have a whole lot of them. But in other cases, shop owners feel they have something special worth hanging onto for very little, if any, investment. This MA cop shop is clearly one of the latter. I found the same thing in an obscure little shop down in Little Rhody run by a fellow one can only describe as slightly eccentric.

This is not to be confused with shops that specialize in gun parts. Whole different animal.
