I have about 600 rounds thru the gun. Has worked great. Only things I have done is add the Tandemkross Hive grips and extended mag release,

Had a match last evening and when I went to clean it this morning, I found a chunk missing from the upper left corner of the white nylon bumper on the top rear of the frame. Also has a few cracks.

Called S&W CS and was told I had to send it back as the part is fitted with a roll pin and they are not allowed to send the part out for me to replace.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Apparently. I not heard or seen this problem.

This surprises me, I would expect a buffer to be a user replaceable part.

Expect away. That is seldom true. Just like on automobiles, where a simple thing like changing the sparkplugs sometimes takes major surgery.

When I was younger, a friend of mine had a 1949 Oldmobile. Changing the plugs on the V8 required putting the car on a lift, removing the front wheels and detaching the interior splash guards to gain access to the plugs. It would seem that automotive (and apparently firearms) design engineers usually only worry about progressive initial assembly sequence, not maintenance or repair.

A case in point: I note the welcome differences between Ruger's detestable Mark III and the newer Mark IV disassembly procedures. The Mark III was a nightmare, and most people preferred to find a used Mark II rather than the Mark III, which was apparently designed by clueless lawyers. The rotten sales record of the Mark III finally convinced Ruger management to pay more attention to its customers than politically correct doo-dads on their guns.

I looked at the Ruger MKIV when I was looking for a 22. At that time, it was on recall and my local GS had a Victory in stock at a good price. It has performed flawlessly but now I have to wait until its return from S&W. CS told me 4-5 weeks. Curious to what is the average turn around time that others have experienced.

A while back I contacted S&W customer service about a replacement barrel screw and requested a spare buffer as the original was showing some wear. Both parts were in my mailbox ten days later. The new screw is still in use, and the buffer will be used when necessary.

Interesting!!! CS told me the bumper was an item that they are not allowed to ship as a replacement part!!! Guess I spoke with the wrong person!!! Simple to change out as there is only one roll pin holding it. Now I have to wait for the of the pistol.

Yes to this, replacing a buffer isn't rocket science. I still don't understand why it wouldn't be replaceable by the user.

As in many instances, I believe it's based upon who you happen to get a hold of in the phone. If it's Fred the maintenance man filling in for the day, no telling what you might get told!

Is this typical of SW CS nowadays? A couple of years ago, got quick turn around on wife's Bodyguard 380 with light strikes. Just picked up recently a 686-6 Plus. So far so good as it it great!!

I think it's that way with many large organizations. Remember that the people who answer the phones are probably among the lowest paid employees. Thus turnover is most likely very high. With high turnover comes mistakes. Even in organizations that pay well you can call two different times and get two different answers. Take the IRS or ATF for example.....

Got an update from FedEx and the Victory is scheduled for delivery Monday. The clock starts then. Will see how long it takes to get it back.

I wonder if, because this was a breakage and not a spare, S&W wanted to examine the pistol to see what exactly had happened. It may be indicative of another problem.

FedEx delivered it this morning. guess I have to wait and see what they do find. It has been flawless in the 5-600 rounds I have shot it.

Every online video that depicts the SW22 teardown reveals the same (front left notch) on the nylon bumper... including my own pair of Victory pistols.


That would suggest it may be a designed feature....

I agree but mine had a "chunk", about 1/8 x 1/8, missing on the left side at the top. Also there was a crack going from the corner of the missing chunk to the bottom.

S&W says this morning, a new nylon bumper was installed and the Victory is shipping back to me. They had it for about 2 weeks. Will report when received.

Victory received yesterday. SW installed a new nylon bumper. No other explanation. Will get too the range Monday to test it out and will report.

Took to the range this evening and it shot great!!! Put 100 rounds thru it. I am satisfied!!!!
