Question Need help in pricing a model 39-2

Hello, I am interested in buying a model 39-2 in good to excellent condition. What prices am I looking at ? I see some at a local gun show going from $500.00 to $850.00. Are those prices realistic? The guy with the $850.00 gun would not even negotiate. Thank you for any help you could give me. Ray

If missing original stocks or the stocks are torn up, finish is average or worn, $350 tops.

If the pistol has a decent finish and one magazine, no box, $350 to $450 is typical.

If the pistol is gorgeous with hardly any flaws and has original stocks in fine condition but no box, $500-$550 is the area.

If it's nearly mint or better and with the original stocks, with both magazines and the paperwork in the box, it probably trades from $600 to $800 depending on just how flawless the finish is.

The 39-2 is attractive, fits the hand nicely, quite historically significant, is much loved, is fantastic to own and shoot and collectible -BUT- the market is not catastrophically high because S&W shipped over 347,000 of these pistols. For all the good, they are not rare and they are not scarce.

I've got three 39's and I'm sure I'll end up with a couple more.

I believe Sevens has hit the nail on the head on the values of 39-2. I bought one last fall for $400 and it is in pretty good condition.

Thank you for all that useful information. I was looking at gunbroker and All the 39-2 on gunbroker are pretty overpriced. I think I will run an ad in the forum to see if anyone would be willing to part with theirs at a reasonable price.

Again, Thanks!

That's a good idea. I did the same and ended up with a very nice 39-2 for $450. That started me off and now I have 4...two nickel and 2 blue.

It would seem that prices have gone up. Great information on this site.

GunJoker has a lot of firearms for sale, but so many of them have pie-in-the-sky prices and you will see them perpetually re-listed. I think Sevens has given really good advice on current, realistic prices for a 39-2. Also, factory nickel plated specimens still command a premium.
