Default S&W Model 639 Trigger pull

I obtained a S&W Model 639 and it works fine but the trigger has a lot of loose play before firing. Is this standard and can it be altered to remove some of the slack?

The "Trigger Play Spring" is either bent or broken, quite common. You will need the spring and rivet, items 78 & 79 in the schematic found on this page of Model 39 parts you will find by following this link to the Numrich on-line catalog:
