Default 1911e slide stop stuck?

I have a new model e that I bought a few years ago and I was going to check it out before I went to try it. It seemed that it was really hard to rack. Followed the instructions to field strip the pistol, but when I came to the part to remove the slide stop it just didn't want to slide out. I have tapped it with wooden dowel and small hammer, it is in alignment with the notch. It appears that it just doesn't want to slide out. Any suggestions, I don't want to break anything.

Got it guys, had wrong notch aligned. Just not familiar with 1911's, reread instructions and found what I was doing wrong.

You may need to move the slide a bit forward or back to get the notch just right (the small one right?) don't whack on it!
Edit: Make sure the magazine is out and the slide stop is down.Hold the gun with your right hand and use your right forefinger to put pressure on the back side of the slide stop while using your left hand to just slightly move the slide forward and back just a tiny bit.It should pop right out

Thanks for the advise. When I was figuring it out I didn't hit it very hard, just enough to see that there wasn't any detent involved. Since then I have tore it down every evening just to developed some proficiency. I use a big dowel to compress the recoil spring, much easier than using the supplied S&W wrench.
As a lefty I find it is hard to use the safety, mag ejection no issue.

Garra get a smith to install an ambidextrous safety. Makes 1911s lefty friendly. Lever on each side.

Don't forget to remove the barrel bushing last during disassembly and install the barrel bushing first during reassembly as the barrel can become misaligned and jam between the slide and the frame.
