Your 3914 is a 3rd generation gun, as such you can swap any hammer from any other 3rd gen traditional double action pistol. For example if you got a hammer that came from a 4566TSW, it will fit your 3914. Same goes for a spurred hammer from a 1006 or a 5906, they're all interchangeable amongst 3rd gen guns. First generation hammers such as found in model 39/59 have a half-cock notch are are not compatible with your 3914. In point of fact, you'll find that the MIM hammers for the 3rd gen guns are specifically marked in a molded depression on the left side of the hammer thus "NOT FOR USE IN MODELS 39 OR 59"
You'll want the get hold of S&W part number 262230000. That is the MIM spurred hammer assembly for fullsize guns. To fit it you your compact requires swapping the hammer stirrups.
Cheers
Bill

Yes. Different models have different lengths.

Simply put... you just need to swap the hammer stirrup from the bobbed hammer that's on your gun to the spurred hammer you want to install. Call S&W and see if that part number I gave you is in stock. Otherwise you'll need to hunt up a spurred hammer from the parts houses or big auction sites. As I wrote earlier, any spurred hammer from any 3rd gen model will work. Just need to pick the color that suits you.... Flashed chrome wrought steel, blued wrought steel or blued MIM. MIM will likely net you the best D/A trigger feel of the three choices and that's what I recommend. p/n: 262230000 is a MIM spurred hammer assembly that has the long stirrup installed, standard arrangement for a fullsize gun.
Cheers
