Please help me make this Mod. 915 perfect.
Hey,
I'm just bought a near perfect 915. But a previous owner buggered up the rear sight. Look at the pic of that sight, it's the last pic in the group. I warn you though. It's a heartbreaker to look at.
This pistol has the box, papers everything. It's a real beauty, except for that rear sight. I should have it Monday..
I been looking for a 915 in this condition for a long time.
Where might I find a rear sight for it and roughly how much would the sight itself cost? Anybody have one laying around in the old parts drawer? Maybe you put Nite Sights on yours or something.
Anyway,
Thanks.

As these sights are most likely out of production by S&W themselves, you would have to search the used market for one. That means eBay, GunBroker, Numrich, etc.

Nothing on ebay or numrich or GB that I could find.
There might be one on GB that I missed. It was a pain to search.
Does anyone know if any other 3rd gen. sights will fit it, or any other S&W semi-auto rear sights, for that matter?
Thanks.

All of these sights fit the same cut (these are S&W part numbers and will not match with Numrich). They are essentially the same sight but differ in presentation (outline/dots/blank). They look like the attached picture.
100790000 - 469/669 white outline
104500000 - early 3906/5906/6906 white dots
234490000 - 915/411 blank

jsbethel,
Thanks for the pointers.
I'd like to keep it all original.
But if I have no luck, I suppose I could go for the 104500000.
Thanks again.

How much will a smith charge to do this?
I need to replace the rear sight on a S&W Mod. 915.
The sight will be replaced with a "New/Old stock" exact same sight.
Roughly speaking, what would be the going rate for this?
Thanks.

What would a smith charge for this?
Eventually (I hope) I'm going to need the rear sight on an S&W Mod. 915 replaced. But I gotta find one first. : )
Anyway, what would you guys estimate a smith would charge to remove the old sight and replace it with a new, exact same sight?
Ballpark figures are fine. I'm just trying to get an idea.
Thanks.

Less than $100 if you provide the replacement sight.

Might be quicker going to your local Gun Dealer to have the work done there. They should not charge that much at all as its a fairly easy task to do.

I had to take my 4013TSW to the gunsmith that works at a local gun store/range. I needed to have the rear sight removed so I could replace the ejector depressor plunger and I couldn't get the sight off. I was charged $20 or $25 to remove the sight, replace the plunger (which I supplied), and re-install the sight. The steps involved should be very similar to what the OP needs to have done.

Will any other Series 59 rear sights fit a Mod. 915?
Well, that's the big question, are any of Series 59 rear sights EXACTLY like the Mod. 915 rear sights? I want to keep my 915 as close to original as possible.
Thanks.

Kinda depends upon the smith. While the hourly rate may be $65/hr, if everything cooperates, that's about a 5-10 minute job. Charge should be proportionate, at least if he expects repeat business.

This doesn't appear to be a job that would take an hour to do.
How long would this take for decent gunsmith to do?
