Default 2013 shot show S&W 745

Good morning,
Yesterday I was shown a 745 at a local gunshop, it was completely High polished stainless steel ( not a blued slide ) and it has a shot show 2013 tag ( yellow ) hanging from the trigger guard. Does anyone have a source to verify the authenticity of this pistol? I'm curious because their price seemed nearly double the usual 745 asking price.

Inimicalone Welcome to the forum. One of the other members who has more knowledge on this gun should be along shortly to help answer your questions on the gun. Being in Stainless I suspect its a rather rare model of the 745.

Welcome to the Forum

Does the firearm have a box? the end label would tell us quite a bit

Did you take photos that you can post?

Did you make note of the serial number?

Are you sure the upper was stainless and not a hard chrome plating job?

Was the rear sight black? or Silver?

What color was the hammer and trigger? Black? or Silver?

If it is so rare why did the seller not request a Factory Historical letter to corroborate his claims?

I do not recall seeing that firearm in the S&W booth at SHOT and I usually spend quite a bit of time with S&W looking for the new offerings.

Standard catalog of S&W 4th edition has no mention of a SS slide 745 model..

And welcome Inimicalone from the Ozarks of S/W Missouri via Chicago.

Thanks for the welcome, guys.
I had the missus with me, so I was playing it cool( in case it follows me home, hoping it will blend in with the other Smith autos).
It was a gun they took in trade and isn't available for purchase for a couple more weeks. I will get back in there next Saturday to get the pertinent info. I believe the sight was black, but the other parts looked stainless, it may very well have been hard chrome not stainless. It sure was pretty though.

The hammer and trigger should be black

If the hammer and trigger appear to be made from the same metal as the slide, then there is no doubt this is an aftermarket refinish of the firearm.

Smith and Wesson does not use stainless steel for the hammer or trigger

Is this specific to the 745? Both my 3906 and 695 have triggers and hammers that match their slides, my 4006 has the aforementioned
Black hammer and trigger.

If you take another look at your firearms, you will see that the hammers and triggers are not quite the same color as the stainless slides.

The hammers and triggers are are carbon steel and then flash chromed so as to get a closer cosmetic match to the stainless

Ok, so I made it back up to the funstore
to look at the 745 again. The firearm is
completely hard chrome, the store owner
was positive it came from the factory like
that. The is no box or associated paperwork,
but I was able to get the serial number.
It is a DVC prefix four digit serial 42xx.
Hopefully, this can help us solve the mystery.
Thanks in advance.

I have a all stainless 745 also, DVC 020x. Has the IPSC 10th Anniversary logo on the slide. I never bothered to get it lettered but was told it was one of 20 or so made. Bought it in '92 and had the front sight dovetailed in. It had a BarSto barrel and the Ed Brown slide release already on it. The factory extended safety is stainless also.
