Default NO LONGER AVAILABLE. Free mag for Beretta92FS compact.

Hi,

This 9mm magazine is one of two that came with a Mod. 915 pistol. The other one was a marked, OEM S&W 15rd mag with the orange follower.

The aftermarket mag holds 13rds, not 15. It's black metal with a black plastic follower and a black plastic floor plate.

I couldn't find a manufacturer mark anywhere on it, and believe me, I looked everywhere, including the floor plate.

I just find this odd. I mean, who makes pistol magazines without any manufacturing marks?

Can you ID the manufacturer or at least provide an educated guess on who made this mag?

Knowing nothing about the mag, I don't want use it or even insert it into the pistol.

Thanks.

It looks a lot like one made by Pro Mag....Mec-Gars have a high gloss finish if they are blued.

I'm guessing that, given the deeper and wider stamped feeding channel, and the plastic base, that looks like an aftermarket Beretta 92/M9 series mag rather than a Smith.

If it is a Pro Mag, I guess they're not very proud of their mags.

If they were, they'd sign it.

I had many totally unmarked mags I got with a Beretta 92FS a while back including a 30+ rounder.

Pro Mag makes really basic, inexpensive mags. Putting their name on them would add to the production cost!

Upon further examination, I agree that is it actually a Beretta 92 aftermarket magazine and not for a Smith.
Photo #3 shows the give away notch in the top left of the magazine.

Beretta 92 magazine by ProMag, National Magazine, KKK or some other dubious quality manufacturer.
Maybe that's why the price was so low on your 915.
Treat yourself to some MecGar 15 round nickel plated magazine goodness with your savings.

Using information, hints and clues provided by knowledgable members, I can say with a good degree of certainty that the mag in question was made for the Beretta 92FS compact, NOT an S&W Mod. 915.

It holds 13rds, NOT 15 as I said earlier. I eyeballed the mag and took my best guess. That'll teach me!

Now we have a new question:

1. Why did the seller send me a Beretta mag with an S&W pistol?

I don't know if this Beretta mag even fits in the 915. I looked at it and it just hit me wrong so I didn't even try to insert it. And I'm glad I didn't.

I guess I'll talk to the seller about this.

What would you guys do?

Thanks.

Also to clarify it's a magazine for Beretta 92F or later models. It doesn't have the cutout towards the bottom for the 92SB or early models. If it was made by Beretta it would have the PB mark in the baseplate, cutout for 92SB style magazine release, would be stamped PB CAL 9 PARA MADE IN ITALY on the side and would have witness holes on the back for 5, 10, and 15 rounds.

It looks like it would make a great magazine to take to the range, I enjoy blasting holes through the sides of them and the small size makes them a challenge to hit.

I guess it's back to the seller again. This time I'll ask him to send me an OEM S&W mag for the Mod. 915 or al least a Mec-Gar. No ProMag, please.

What would you gus do?

Thanks.
It's been modified to 'work' with the S&W 59 series. It's closer to a SIG P226 magazine or Taurus PT92 magazine than the 59 series and people have had luck cutting new notches to work with them. The size is almost the same between the Beretta and S&W but the S&W has a longer taper and the top, the cutout for the slide is different and the follower notch for slide lock is different. Also, if that magazines fits in your 915 it's for a full size 92FS and not the compact. You can probably get $10 for it if your lucky. Did the listing specify what magazine came with the gun? I suppose you could see if they will take it back but I would doubt it.

BlackTalonJHP,

I don't think getting a wrong mag accounted for the $305 price on this almost mint 915. After all, it also came with a correct OEM mag.

I'll pay $305 all day long for 915s in this kind of shape with box, papers and a correct OEM mag.

Then I'll turn right around and sell them for $400 or $450.

And I don't think I'd have a lack of buyers.

Here is what their description said:

"Featured in this auction is a Smith & Wesson 915 semi-auto pistol chambered in 9mm. DA/SA with safety/decocker. 4" barrel. Includes two 15 round magazines (one original S&W, one aftermarket), owners manual and original hard case."

So one of the 15rd mags turned out to hold13rds and it's not even a mag made for the pistol.

So yeah, I think they owe me a mag. And I think they'll do the right thing. I've spoken with them before. They seem like real decent folks. I think this was just an honest mistake.

I'll call them tomorrow and let you know what they had to say.

And thank you for educating me on these mags. You obviously have your Ph.D in the subject.

I guess I wasn't clear in my post but I'm saying that if a picture of that magazine was in a listing it might cause some people to bid less than they would if they saw a brand new factory magazine in the listing. That said, I haven't seen the listing so I don't know.

If it were me, I'd ask them to eat the shipping since an aftermarket mag would cost as much as shipping to an FFL. The worst they could say is no.

BTJHP,

I talked to the folks who sold me the pistol today.

They apologized for the error and they're sending me a new Mec-Gar 15rd mag for the 915.

Good people.

Hey,

A correct Mec-Gar mag arrived today from the gunshop that included an incorrect mag with the Mod. 915 they sold me.

Although no members here could say with any specificity who made this mag (it is unmarked) we did establish that it probably was made for a Beretta 92FS, Compact.

This mag holds 13rds, and that's what the mags for the Beretta 92FS Compact hold.

Anyway, I don't think I'll ever have a use for this particular mag.

If one of you folks wants it, PM me.

I'm doing this because one of the members here, whom I'm sure would be embarrassed if I mentioned his name, recently sent me a part I needed.

In honor of that, the first member who can use this mag and PMs me gets it.

I agree. Looks like a Beretta 92 magazine, naturally, aftermarket though.

Sorry, you just missed it. I gave it away today.

I posted that offer five days ago. No one seemed interested, so this afternoon I gave it to a range owner who'll use it in one of his rental Berettas.

prescobd,

No offense intended. I'm sure this was an oversight on your part. So this is merely a suggestion.

When I saw your listed location as Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, I figured what the hell, he's doing his part for our country, I'll buy him a new mag and send it to him.

But when I PMed you, you sent me a Michigan address.

I'm confused.
